Bio
Soulfire are a dynamic four piece soul and blues band writing and performing original material. Born and bred in Aberdeen, each band member has honed their talent in the city's music scene. Soulfire began in early 2010 and feature Sarah Roberts (vocals), Lee Sangster (guitar), Paul Barclay (drums) and the most recent member of the band is Chris Cameron (bass). Soulfire formed when Paul and Lee, best friends and jamming partners for years, decided to become serious about their music and form the kind of band that they'd always wanted to be in. Strongly influenced by the rock n roll music explosion of the 1960s; the Chicago blues scene, R&B Soul, Detroit Motown, and the mods and rockers of the British Invasion, such as the Small Faces, The Kinks and The Who; the kind of band that Paul and Lee envisaged necessitated a strong female vocal to set the band apart. They were at a bit of a loss as to where to find such a vocal when by chance, Lee came across Sarah's advert in a local music store and one phone call, one beer and one jam session later, Soulfire was born. The band's influences are many and diverse to list but a few of the great artists to which Soulfire owe their musical and lyrical inspiration; The Small Faces, Humble Pie, PP Arnold, Etta James, Nina Simone, The Black Keys, The Black Crowes, Free, Neil Young, Sly and the Family Stone, Grand Funk Railroad, Creedence Cleerwater Revival, Jefferson Airplane, Led Zeppelin, Patti Smith, Stevie Nicks, Janis Joplin, Sharon Jones & the Dap-Kings, The Who, The Cure and The Smiths. Soulfire are heading into the studio December 2011 to record their first EP, comprising 3 original songs. Lenny Webster will be joining them to lay down some soaring Hammond organ licks (Soulfire are hoping / plotting to kidnap him and force him out of gigging retirement!). The No Good Woman EP will be available in the New Year!
