Bio
It's a bird, it's a plane, it's a purple elephant?
Soul Funkin Dangerous has been tootin the Soul Funk train around the Bluegrass since May 2009. Starting as a cover band to fill a need for soul and funk in Lexington, KY, SFD has since progressed into a band based in originals with an arsenal of covers, modern and retro, to add flavor. SFD has shared the stage with the likes of The Wailers, Afroman, The Dynamites feat. Charles Walker, Canago, Deep Fried Five, MojoFlo, Midwest Hype and many other great acts.
Donald Mason (Dr. M) leads the The Soul Funk train with smooth baritone vocals, song writing and whatever he can get his hands on. Erik Shields takes the throne on drums and some bonus vocals. The rhythm section continues with Matt Yeast on bass and Richard Mattingly on guitar. Josh Dargavell gets down on the trombone along with Byron McChord on keys. Last but not least, Dr. Eric Murine on trumpet and DMA student Carlos Espinosa on saxophone round out the sound. And of course the ever present special guests that you never know might show up. With our powers combined, we create Captain Pla... well, you get the drift.
You never know what may be up our sleeves. So sit back, relax, and let the music make you move to the groove.
Recorded at Shangri La Studios in Lexington, KY with the legendary engineer Duane Lundy, debut album, "Modern Throwback", is due for digital release Summer 2014.
