Bio

Producer of Tomorrow.
From the unlikely tropical island nation of Singapore, 85 miles north from the equator, the multi-dimensional Soulhuman7 quickly rose to prominence as one of the most interesting and reclusive figures in late-'90s Singapore underground hip-hop. His expansive style and deft touch for composition made him one of the rising, creatively fresh local producers. An enthusiastic crate digger, with a deep reverence for jazz and soul, Soulhuman 7 branched out into a number of ambitious, engaging solo projects which may never seen the day of light.
Introduced early into the world of hip hop beatmaking at the age of 16, whilst pursuing industry knowledge at The School of Audio Engineering, Soulhuman7 aka Norhisham Iskhandar would hone his skills making beats on Fruity loops and Cubase for the burgeoning local hip-hop scene which was still in its infancy. Bopping to rap and hip-hop since primary school with Run Dmc, Naughty by Nature and Kriss Kross on his headphones, Soulhuman7 unknowingly was subconsciously deciphering the sonic architecture of hip-hop.
It wasn’t until the discovery of the California’s Lootpack debut album, which saw the introduction of the eccentric L.A. producer Madlib to the world in 1999, that spurred the rookie beatsmith follow his idol’s footstep to further delve into the art of crate digging. This relationship was further cemented by the historic meeting mentor and disciple when Soulhuman7 flew 30000 miles to Miami to shake hands with his idol at the inaugural M3 event in 2004 during its annual Winter Music conference.
Inspired by the no rules, none conforming, artistically freestyle production technique of his idol, the Soulhuman7 beatsmith constantly polishes his production skills creating free form unclassifiable multilayered soundscapes like a man on a mission, somehow finding time to crank out up to sixty beats a month. Armed with the hip-hop standard Akai MPC 1000 sampler at the crux of his productions, Soulhuman7 would exploit any and every sound imaginable.
Not one to draw comparisons, the sampledelic maestro eludes current music trends instead creates his own sound of the season. This daring formula has benefited Soulhuman7 exponentially as rappers and artiste look to him for that niche sound.
In 2006, Soulhuman7 founded the independent music label, Native Tongue Records which saw the August release of his seminal debut instrumental LP, Loop Diggin, which received praise in the Singapore’s underground hip-hop scene for its adventurous and inventive concept. With future projects and releases for other artists in Native Tongue’s roster including Soulhuman7’s sophomore LP line up for late 2006, NTR is definitely progressing into the positive directions.
For his next endeavor under the Gurindrum moniker, Soulhuman7 is constructing a unique concept album made of beats derived solely from the untouched rich musical catalog of Malay culture. With the purpose of reinventing and reliving Malay traditional sound, thumping grooves have been combined with hypnotic beats of Malaysian drums (rebana) and hip-hop bass lines resulting in a perfect measure of ancient and modern music with organic and electronic doses in perfectly balanced proportions to suit the 21st century MTV generation.
Featuring a heady mix of both traditional and modern sounds, this album presents a showcase of Soulhuman7's abilities that has continued to expand beyond the core hip hop that he is known for.
