Bio

The Souljahz are – Joshua (26), Je’kob (24), and Rachael Washington (21). It has been 8 long hard years since they sat down to write their very first song. But time has only sharpened the groups edge and ongoing will to change the world through their music. The Souljahz have combined an assured, energetic and explosively original sound with an uncompromised message of hard-won hope and high ideals. They are not just laying out the problems. They are talking about the solutions.

It's an upfront, in-charge attitude that defines every aspect of this remarkable groups saga. Joshua and Je'kob, both gifted athletes, opted for a career in music over college basketball scholarships, while sister Rachael, an award winning dancer, was quick to follow the same dream. With musical influences like Michael Jackson, Stevie Wonder, Wes Montgomery, the Fugees and many more, the Souljahz developed an original sound that would soon gain the attention of thousands of people all over the world. They began to establish themselves on the Southern California music scene along with artist such as P.O.D and Tone’x, appearing regularly at local events, churches and talent shows and garnering a fast growing following in the process. So promising was the group's potential that their father sold his business to help manage their career.

It proved to be a wise move, as events quickly catapulted Souljahz into a whole new arena, with an invitation to record a series of demos in Germany, followed by a string of high-profile showcase performances, the Souljahz quickly generated the interest of several different indy and major record labels. The Souljahz chose patience over ambition and continued recording, releasing a self-titled and self-produced CD in 1999. Along with an appearance on MTV's pilot for “It's Your Show”, placement of 2 original songs on X-Box’s debut video game “Project Gotham” and the inclusion of a Souljahz original track on the ASCAP compilation The Ear, signing with a label was inevitably the next step. November 1st, 2001the Souljahz signed with the Nashville based record label Word records. They recorded and released their first record titled “The Fault is History” in May of 2002 released on Word/Warner bros. Records, and immediately the group garnered press coverage that singled them out as "a smash act in the making".

What Souljahz can do, as evidenced by the sixteen selections of their freshman release The Fault Is History, is to present their powerful and persuasive message in a wide array of musical settings and with an instantly accessible vocal style that is as irresistible as it is original. From "Let Go”, the magnificent musical manifesto that opens the album, through such standout tracks as "The Color Hate," "Poor Man," "Keep Risin'" and "Jubilee," The Fault Is History paints an unflinchingly honest portrait of today's world even as it celebrates the faith, hope and love that can transform that world.

The Souljahz have performed alongside some of the very best in the music industry, as they have patiently awaited their turn to lead the pack. Joshua, Je’kob and Rachael have returned to the studio for the third time, and what they have been working on will change the way you view the world outside your window. With topics ranging from Sex/labor slavery to abortion, the Souljahz have found a clever way to attack the issues that most artists are afraid to even touch on. The Souljahz have an uncanny ability to paint incredibly visual pictures of this worlds ever-changing problems thru the raw voice of Hip-Hop music. The Souljahz live set is one to be reckoned with, their heart is untainted in it’s world changing visions, and the style of the group will usher in the storm that will change the next generation of music.
