Soul Movers Current lineup:

The Soul Movers musical recipe combines power ballads played from the heart with evocative 60’s style soul and a sprinkling of folk and retro pop. We are all about creating a moving and unforgettable performance that stays with fans long after the show.

In 2015 the Soul Movers was reformed (after a break of four years) with legendary 'Red Wiggle' Murray Cook replacing Deniz Tek on guitar. Murray is well known in Australia for having the biggest collection of vintage guitars (and knowing how to play them!) and the Soul Movers take full advantage of this with both their style and sound. The second time around we decided to spread into musical areas that were more accessible for a broad demographic and we have found more popular (based on feedback from fans and audiences). Our set now reaches far and wide in terms of genre and performance and our new album (out in February 2017 through ABC Music) reflects this expansion.

The Soul Movers play regular local gigs around Australia and increasingly outside Sydney and Melbourne. This year we traveled across the country to play at The 2016 Nannup Music Festival in Margaret River, WA with more festival booking for 2017 as well as a Melbourne tour booked for late January 2017. Be it corporate gigs, international tours or our favourite local bars we create a set and performance designed to connect and explore the powerful musical dynamic created between band and audience.

The Soul Movers combines seasoned musicians from many well-known and loved local and international bands. PIp Hoyle is an original member of Radio Birdman (Think Australia's version of The Stooges/ MC5 vibe) and Birdman continues to tour internationally every year. With houndreds of gigs under our collective belts we are confident, creative players that when super-powered by a gutsy front woman wielding a wild tambourine (with a voice that blows minds and melts hearts) continues to traverse language and age barriers by captivating and entrancing audiences and moving their souls.

As a novelty for a festival environment the Soul Movers offers a ‘Broken Hearts and Minds Healing and Redemption Show’*. The audience is invited to clap along, sing choruses and star on stage. The band is accompanied by captivating back-up singers plus additional sax and violin. Fronted by much-loved Aussie actor Terry Serio in a crazed 'Southern Baptist Minister' mode audiences are so much more than entertained.

In straight band mode the Soul Movers audience interaction is created through invitations hear more about the stories behind the songs and even bang the roving tambourine. Being thrown into a chorus of ‘Hot Potato’ also gets teens and twenties audience members pogoing instantly! (*For festivals we say go the whole hog and let loose the stage show!)

The Soul Movers new album “Soul Food” comes out January 2017 with a US tour planned for 2017. For a sneak listen go to our website for the latest studio mixes:

The original Soul Movers Bio 2009:

!!!!! EMOTIONAL **** RAW **** POWERFUL !!!!! Soul Movers : "Old School Soul with a Modern Punch" Inspired by artists such as Etta James and Julie London, Lizzie sang a sultry Jazz set around the traps in Sydney, enthralling fans with her riveting stage presence and seductive voice. In 2007 she teamed up with Detroit rockers Deniz Tek and jazz drums man Calvin Welsh to pursue a lifelong love of the Soul and Blues music these guys grew up to.

Deniz's hard rocking background with Radio Birdman is well known. He has toured with the MC5, and has worked extensively with the Asheton brothers from the Stooges - more recently recording with James Williamson. To complete the mix Deniz, Lizzie and Calvin added versatile bass man Andy Newman (who HASN"T played with Andy Down Under?) who syncs with Calvin to form a powerhouse engine room not even a depth-charge bomb could throw off centre. Keyboard embellishment bringing everything from a Gospel choir feel to 60's Beat - as the tune requires - are completed by' King O Keys' Radio Birdman veteran Pip Hoyle with Sydney scene jazz veteran Frank Bennett on tenor saxophone a willing accomplice.

The Soul Movers machine lives and breathes - from the dead of the night jazz soul to the brightest sunny day upbeat retro rock - take a ride on the Soul Movers express - fresh back from touring Spain this September they are ready to rock and roll!
