"Five Local Acts To See In 2006"

......you love a band that knows how to jam (namely Phish, The String Cheese Incident and The Grateful Dead) then you've found your fix. Check them out every Thursday night beginning at 9 p.m. at Allison's on Anastasia.

1. Soulo: You can usually catch him playing at least two shows a week, a slave to his guitar, Soulo (and band) are stars in the making. As a vocalist, he can cover Bob Marley and Peter Tosh like any reggae master and on guitar you would question whether he had one-on-one lessons with strings god Hendrix. Why you shouldn't miss him: It is hard to be disappointed by this guy. The set list is never the same and his musical talents are guaranteed to get anyone on the dance floor. Soulo plays every Tuesday night beginning at 9 p.m. at Allison's on Anastasia.

"Local jukebox presents the sounds of Soulo"

Maybe it's the dim lights, low ceilings and the guitar sound.

Or maybe it's just the hair. Whatever it is, you would swear Hendrix was alive and well, showcasing every Tuesday night at Allison's on Anastasia.

In a way he is, but through the fingers and vocals of Greg Lyons, better known as Soulo.

As a child, Soulo was inspired by the way music made him feel. Intrigued with his older sister's playing, Soulo was determined to teach himself piano and make music his passion.

"Music has always been in me," says Soulo.

As a high school freshman, Soulo taught himself guitar, expanding his musical talents.

Five years later, he recorded an acoustic CD entitled "Me and My Guitar," which includes all original tracks.

He recently release the CD.

Though Soulo's sets mostly include Jimi Hendrix and Bob Marley covers, he hopes to begin incorporating more of his own titles.

"I am definitely planning to work in more of my own stuff," says Soulo.

Everyday living is all the inspiration Soulo needs for his songs. While his reggae and rock guitar style backs his soulful rhythm and blues vocals producing a captivating vibration that begs listeners to at least tap their leg and sway their heads to the beat.

Soulo is making a name for himself in St. Augustine. Regular gigs at Allison's (Tuesday nights 9 p.m. to 1 a.m.) and Cortesses Bistro and Flamingo Room (Monday nights 8 p.m. to midnightish) have already gained him a steady local fan base and placed him on the list of high demand acts for places like The British Pub and A1A Ale Works. - St. Augustine Record - Julia Calgiano - July 15, 2005

"St. Augustine residents: Go out on a date and paint the town red"

Finish your chemistry homework early on a Tuesday and nosh on an early dinner/late lunch at the trendy new Jasmine's Coffeehouse on San Marco (open until 4:30). Then grab Jane or Jim and head to the beach to watch the sunset while collecting shells. When 9 p.m. rolls around, head to Allison's on Anastasia, just over the Bridge of Lions. Soulo, whose tunes reflect his stage-name, offers a blend of cover and original music backed by drums and bass, with him strumming the guitar until 1 a.m.

With the selection ranging from Mario to Marley, there's usually always a beat to dance to. And, though you might bump some butts on the small dance floor, you'll be too sweaty and smiley and high on the rhythm to know if it's your date's bum or that of your arch-nemesis. Cover charge is $5 for those under 21. For of-agers, there's no fee, but you're expected to order a drink or two while you dance the night away. - St. Augustine Record - Julia Calgiano - January 6, 2006
