Biography

Soul Serene is a Rock/Pop/Reggae Band that hails from Boise, ID. The original music of Soul Serene is energetic and explosive, yet smooth and sometimes psychedelic. The music is influenced by the likes of The Beatles, Bob Marley, Jimi Hendrix, and Bob Dylan. Soul Serene sounds like Sublime, Dispatch, Pearl Jam and the Stone Temple Pilots. The band loves to throw a few familiar covers into the mix also; sometimes playing them in a traditional style and sometimes Soul Serene adds a fresh new twist.

Like a small hop root that grows and flourishes on a farm in rural southwest Idaho, so to do the dreams of a few young men. The story of Soul Serene begins with such a dream, one shared collectively among all involved. It is a dream where personal enjoyment meets the greater good; a dream of sharing peace, love, joy and harmony through song. This dream is now maturing into a magnificent reality.

The story of Soul Serene can be picked up at a jam session in Boise, ID where Spencer Batt and Jay Multanen met at the house of a mutual friend. While both musicians were in a period of musical limbo, they found comfort and joy in each others melody. Upon that meeting the two joined forces and began making sweet harmonies together. The result is a blessed blend of rock, reggae, folk and a serious groove. Change and relocation was in the fold for both young men as things would have it. Spencer altered his plans to graduate early from College. Jay packed up his things in California where he was playing music and both moved to Boise. The early days of the band were off to an organic beginning. Spencer and Jay played music whenever, wherever and with whoever they could. The momentum began to build…

Spencer, a farmboy who was raised in the fields, was seeking a place to live the “big city” of Boise. Jay introduced him to his friend Ryan Shaw who had patronized many a Soul Serene show. Ryan and his brother opened their door and welcomed Spencer. The relationship blossomed and soon Ryan joined the band.

As the band charged forward, Jay and Spencer booked a gig at a local pub for the weekend but were strapped for a drummer. Enter Randy Redburn. Spencer had grown up with Randy and was always inspired by his musical skill, so when Randy learned all three sets the night before the performance and pulled it off Spencer was not surprised. Although Randy’s performance was key to the success of the show, the band spent the month tying out other drummers, and with no luck. A last minute gig on the 4th of July led them to once again ask for the service of Randy on drums and this time, he would stick with the band.

Gyspy Lady

Written By: Spencer Batt

Hey Gypsy lady they say your crazy but I see your eyes are true and it’s me that you see through

If you’ve got questions then I’ve got answers can you tell me what I’ll be in this future you can see?
I hope that I’m not being Naïve.

Hey Gypsy lady your smile is fading for you say the end is near, but never should I fear. There’s justice coming, so no use running. Won’t you do the best you can and be a peaceful man?
So tell me what it’s like in the end.

When the sky is falling and the heavens will be calling out while Hell burns down.
Light will smother darkness and the devils of the Earth laid down from hands above.
I hope that I’m…. I hope I’m going up.

Hey Gypsy lady they say your crazy but if you speak the truth then let me know how soon. She said be ready, and take it steady for you will not know the day, there are no words to explain.
So tell me what it’s like in the end.

When the sky is falling and the heavens will be calling out while Hell burns down.
Light will smother darkness and the devils of the Earth laid down from hands above.
I hope that I’m…. I hope I’m going up.

Mother Mercy

Mother Mercy

I’m counting down the days; I know it’s coming soon. Waiting for this ray of hope to shine on through.
The battles carry on but no one’s listening. May we hold on strong…
Like a thief in the night he will creep (times 3)

Mother Mercy please keep us from harm. Count your blessing I think its time that we disarm. Can’t you see that this War on this world can make you feel alone, and there’s no place for you to call your home.

I’m counting down the days. The headlines spell it out. Yet no peace has been made, and still the voices they scream and they shout.
The battles carry on, the bullets flying high. May you hold on strong…
Forever and ever they’ll fight (times 3)

Mother Mercy please keep us from harm. Count your blessing I think its time that we disarm. Can’t you see that this War on this world can make you feel alone, and there’s no place for you to call your home.

Peace Signs

Peace Signs

At times I feel the tension of this world. I hear it on the TV and I read the words. A sign of peace would help us think so ease your mind it’s not worth fighting. In history we have believed so raise your arm and lift your sign up

High… this peaceful sign will ease your mind. The past is gone but it’s never been left behind. I don’t see why we have to fight.

The past is gone but its never been left behind, past is gone but it’s never been….

There were peace signs flying around the air that day trying to make this world spin in a different way.

The first time that they saw it was in 58. The coming generation wouldn’t hesitate. Summer of love no need for guns, actions feeding a revolution. When it comes to push and shove is a bullet the best solution?

Why… this peaceful sign will ease your mind. The past is gone but its never been left behind. I don’t see why we have to fight.

The past is gone but its never been left behind, past is gone but its never been…

There were peace signs flying around the air that day trying to make this world spin in a different way.

Rooftops

Rooftops

There’s a place I know where I used to go, to be free from this world and take off a load. Time here stands so still, and the sun shines so bright. But how long ‘til it’s gone, and how long will we fight?

Green fields are coming down, rooftops are all around, listen closely the silence was here but can’t be found.

There’s a place I knew but there’s nothing I could do to keep my footprints from fading away. It seems our hard work has gone to waste. Concrete rules this land we once held in our hands. There’s no more we can give, but with time these memories will live.

Green fields are coming down, rooftops are all around, listen closely the silence was here but can’t be found.

And when the wind blows through the tree’s you will hear the voices of those who lie beneath. And when the towers fall to the floor, you will see the footprints of those who walked before.

Green fields are coming down, rooftops are all around, listen closely the silence was here but can’t be found.
