"Eclectic Allstars"

http://www.mkeonline.com/people/blogs.asp?id=65&entry=9429

"I've been lucky enough to catch The Eclectic Allstars at the Summer Sizzle for the past few years. Five or six or sometimes seven friends playing a collection of jazz, soul, funk, blues. You know... a perfect set of "eclectic" music for the weekend event. Horns, guitar, sax, bass, drums, and a Wurlitzer electric piano. Think of them as a jazz "jam band." They draw a huge crowd, and lots of dancing too.

In years past they played in a small side tent, but this year they were on the Buffalo Street main stage. The live show on the main stage seemed less vibrant than it was in years past in the small tent setting. Otherwise, the show was great. These guys really are excellent musicians, and easily switch up instruments, or invite new band members on stage to play various instruments."

Bio

SoulSquad is an intense fusion of funk/r&b/soul/jazz. We are all about bringing positive energy to the crowd and making them groove to our funky sound. Raised on a old school background with new school techniques, our grooves appeals to audiences of all ages and tastes.
SoulSquad consists of a variety of younger talented musicians hailing from the Milwaukee area. Saxophonist Freddy DeBoe now resides in Boston, MA, where he studies at Berklee College of Music with such teachers and mentors as Walter Beasley, Kenwood Dennard, and Dave Samuels. Recently graduating from Berklee, drummer Jack DeBoe resides on the east coast, playing for such artists as Vudoo Soul, Kevin So, and Will Champlin. Electric bassist Garrett McGinn resides in Milwaukee and studies privately with Tod Stelmaszewski, where his background in funk, jazz and classical gives him an eclectic style to draw from, keeping the low end groovy. Mike Skauge, entering his second year at Roosevelt University in Chicago with a Jazz Studies (Piano) major concentration, has performed throughout the world in festivals in Italy and the Netherlands as well as playing extensively in the Midwest.
SoulSquad have also collaborated with local Milwaukee artists and acts, including Mark Davis and Berkeley Fudge at the Wisconsin Conservatory of Music, and the Eclectic Allstars, being featured for its fourth year primetime at the Third Ward Jazz Festival. Keeping their musical tastes eclectic, influences to the SoulSquad’s sound include classic artists such as James Brown, Sly Stone, and Herbie Hancock, as well as new artists such as Soulive, Kenny Garrett, and Joshua Redman.
