Soulstice Seventh

 Winston-Salem, North Carolina, USA
BandPopSinger/Songwriter

Warm summer sunshine and Motown-inspired, gospel-esque vocal grooves come together to create a sound that simultaneously pushes the envelope of modern music, while honoring the bluesy Southern roots that gave it life: this is Soulstice Seventh.

Biography

The solstice, in most cultures, is observed as a time of change; in some cultures it represents the change of something as significant as the seasons. The term “soul” refers to an essence in the medium; it implies a sensitivity, an appropriately demonstrated receptivity, a fluidity, an unscripted, unrehearsed, organic spiritual approach to the creative and musical interpretation processes. The combined use of these terms represents Soulstice Seventh’s musical approach. It is a fresh re-imagining, still maintaining the use of trustworthy musical elements that have influenced us individually and collectively.

“Soulstice Seventh” is a Winston-Salem based band, presenting themselves as Indie/Soul artists. The influences range from country and folk to jazz, r&b, and many other genres, combining ambient musical techniques with more chaotic and full styles.

The band formed in 2010 and has been playing consistently since. Soulstice Seventh has a very earthy and yet spiritual approach to music and wishes to share it with as many audiences that are open to its expression.

A Song in Aries

Written By: Raheem McRae

I don't know where you're from,
don't know where you've been.
All I know is
you're so beautiful inside;
I want you in my life.

I don't know where you'll go from me;
I don't know if you're mine to stay,
but wherever the river takes you,
I want to take the ride.

'Cause you're so beautiful inside;
I hope that God returns to you
the beauty you provide.
'Cause you're so beautiful inside,
and I hope that God returns to you
the beauty you provide,
'cause you're so beautiful inside.

I don't know who has passed
Up
The opportunity to bask
with you in,
in the secrets of your heart,
but this may be my gain.

And it may not grow.
It may not hold,
but at least I got to say

That you're beautifully made.
How beautiful today,
and you're beautiful inside.
Because you're beautiful inside,
I hope that God returns to you
the beauty you provide.
Because you're beautiful inside.
I hope that God returns to you
the beauty you provide.

Because you're beautiful inside.
I hope that God returns to you...
oh,oh
because you're beautiful inside.

Yesterday's a Pretty Song

Written By: Raheem McRae

In the wind I hear a howlin,
drenched in the wine and rose.
Yesterday's a pretty song
that I know will soon be over.

Like the herds, I feel you runnin'
on a ground so unforgiving.
You might can run,
but you could never, ever hide.

Just flow.
Let it take over,
like the sun lights up the moon;
we show our face and hide our truth.
What lies beneath is enough to make us cry,
so we run,
just to get over.

Yesterday's a pretty song,
if for the rose and wine alone.
There is water that's on the moon,
that I know
will soon wash over me.

Like the rose buds in early winter,
our love was unprepared;
the winter was bitter.
But there is courage in the try.

Don't go.
Let's do it over.
Like the shadows need the sunlight,
our today needs our truth.
Where is the courage in lying and being "right?"
Be bold
and be open.

Yesterday's a pretty song,
if for the rose and wine alone.
There is water that's on the moon
that I know
will soon wash over me.

This is Music

Written By: Raheem McRae

A big ol' ocean,
enough to bring me to my knees.
There is a music hidden here,
but it's more beauty, can't you hear?
A skyline opens;
a sun that sings in harmony.
What is a reason for these gifts;
what is a reason for this here?

The truth of the matter is:
this is music,
this is music,
this is music.
And the truth of the matter is:
this is music,
this is music
and how it first begins.

And this is hoping the water falling from the trees
and it makes music way down here,
so I can hear it loud and clear.
The moon approaches,
the sun is singing what it needs.
What is the reason for this here;
what is the reason for these gifts?

And the truth of the matter is:
this is music,
this is music,
this is music.
And the truth of the matter is:
this is music,
this is music
and how it first begins.

Oh,
the truth of the matter is:
this is music,
this is music.

Oh,
the truth of the matter is:
this is music,
this is music.

Oh,
and the truth of the matter is:
this is music,
this is music
and how it first begins.

The Shore

Written By: Raheem McRae

You come give me my reasons;
you walked me to the line
to show me that it's OK to fear
standing at the sea end.
Even if I close my eyes,
and even if the ground disappears,

I'll keep walking with you,
right beside you.
I'll keep walking to you;
I trust you.

Even if the sea end's nothing that I've seen before,
want to be willing to walk towards my fears.
Sometimes the waves down here,
the waves down at the shore
are the things I need to clear my fears.

I'll keep walking with you,
right beside you.
I'll keep walking to you;
I trust you.

I clear fear and everything that's trying to stop me from connecting to you.
Even if our hands cleave-
you take your hand from mine,
and even if the waves are crashing in,
I will give the current my body and my mind.
Somehow we got to learn how to swim.

I'll keep walking with you,
right beside you.
I'll keep walking to you;
I trust you.

A Song for the Congo

Written By: Raheem McRae

I put my voice in the air
so you can breathe again.
Let my reflection stare,
so I can see within.
I take off all the clothes
so you can see me again.
I failed you so;
I admit that I see me
in your insanity.
People killing people to live,
to supply to my country.
That's no way I'd want to live;
I can imagine you feel the same.
I've failed you so;
I admit
that I'm just one man.
I admit
that there are problems in my own damn.
I admit
I don't know where to start,
take this from my heart.
I admit
I don't know what to say.
I admit
if this were my country, there'd be a world war today.
I admit
I've not given a damn...
With this the silence ends.
