Bio

Shhh! Don't tell anyone, but funk music exists outside of London. Nay, even further north than Manchester! For from the dark, murky caverns underneath the Tyne Bridge emenates a sound not heard on these streets before.... The booming bass startles passers by as Liam Gaughan crafts a bassline the likes of which has not been heard since George Clinton was in town. Tim Shaw starts to groove along with guitar so fresh so clean. Marc Mawson brings up the rear with beats as fat as yo momma. ABSORB freestyles over the beat with rhymes so sharp he should have a sideline in acupuncture. Songstress Ruth Silversides comes in with a chorus, drawing in passers by to hear her soulful storytelling. A crowd forms outside the door, intrigued by the sound. Soon, their heads start to nod, as if independent from their bodies. Hips start shaking. Before long, the traffic on Newcastle Quayside has come to a standstill as the ever growing crowd refuses to stand still. The Soul Technique effect has taken hold....

Soul Technique formed late 2007, through a mutual longing to bring something different to what had become an indie dominant music scene in Newcastle upon Tyne. It was time to shake things up! Their first gig was in March 2008 - a Battle of the Bands competition to win a place to perform at Newcastle’s Green Gathering Festival that summer. The band went on to win this against stiff competition from the region’s finest, and played the Green Gathering in August 2008, to one of the biggest crowds of the festival.

Soul Technique's strengths not only lie in their ability to get a crowd jumpin', but also in their ability to craft songs. Their second studio EP, 'The ST EP' (2010) has shown that this ability is radio friendly- it gained them support from the likes of BBC 6 Music, Rai Radio 2 (Italy), Radio 6 Soul & Jazz (Netherlands), and the launch party for the EP packed out Newcastle's World Headquarters club.

'Move with Me', is the band's latest single, available as a free download from www.soultechnique.co.uk . Craig Charles on his Funk and Soul Show on BBC 6 Music said it was the “Crackin’ guitar hook and above all a first class ear for production is what won me over.” The download package also includes tasty remixes from the likes of Dom P and Mr Bird.

The band are currently in the studio, recording 3 new tracks which have brought the house down live- watch this space! As much as the band love their cavern beneath the Tyne Bridge, 2011 is the year for them to spread their wings- watch out for them causing mischief at a club or festival near you....
