Bio

A clash of the 60s, 70s and 90's rock with hints of folk and blues, Sound of the Sun, is the brainchild of Seah Maister, Jenna Earle and Karli Rose MacIntosh. SOTS has developed it's own brand of West Coast Art Rock.

Citing influences such as Crosby Stills and Nash, Queens of the Stone Age, The Doors, The Beatles, Pink Floyd and Led Zeppelin, the band draws upon the essence of music from decades past. Their harmony heavy compositions strike a unique balance of soft and heavy, darkness and light.

SOTS began writing together in 2006, but it wasn’t until 2012 that they moved from an acoustic trio to an electric 4 piece (with Tim Riopelle on bass), playing larger clubs and rock and roll venues.

Sound of the Sun has roots not only in Canada, but in California as well. The girls traveled to Santa Barbara in 2012, and had the pleasure of singing background vocals for Jean-Michel Byron’s (former singer of TOTO) new record. They returned later that year to play the Avocado Festival in Carpinteria, CA. Between the release of their first EP, and making a second appearance at the Avo Fest in 2013, to their first official tour through Southern B.C. in 2014, SOTS has been pretty busy. Some highlights included, playing the Tiny Lights Festival and the Kaslo Jazz Festival, lending guest background vocals to the progressive rock/metal project, Trailight’s second album, winning 3rd prize (and a lot of beer!) in a month long acoustic battle of the bands and participating in Rock The Mic at the Hard Rock Casino.

SOTS took the better part of the last year off from performing to focus their efforts on writing new material their first full-length album. In January of 2015 they recorded some demos with Producer Mike Dawson (Adam Carolla Show) in Santa Barbara at JAMS (Jasmine’s Alternative Music School).

Now back in Canada and ready to kick into high gear, the girls and Tim have shows popping up left and right, and will begin recording for the album very soon.
