Brian Cullen

I began playing guitar in my bedroom at age 15, soon after I fell in love with my instrument. In fact my wife wants me to divorce it. I began playing 3 notes over and over driving my parents crazy until they gave in and then I began my first guitar lessons. I loved Led Zeppelin and their powerful electrified blues and studied every song note for note. When I finished school I was kicked out of the music department and had to find somewhere else to hang out. My Mother said "Brian you have to do something with your life. I have enrolled you in Music at University." I then said "O.K."
I was mentored by Maestro Adrian Walter of Charles Darwin University and the Northern Territory Guitar Festival for 5 years and began to specialise in the classical guitar music of the Spanish Nationalist period, Baroque period and the music of South America. My friends prefer the South American stuff that I play.
I then became a Bachelor of Music (Honours) post graduate and a post graduate of the Diploma of Education at Charles Darwin University and was awarded the C.D.U. guitar student with the most outstanding achievement for 2004.
In 2001 over a beer I was invited on tour with local group NEO. Over the past 4 years I have been working as a gun for hire and a performing artist touring Australia and the East Coast with the bands ‘NEO’ and ‘Jigsaw’. During this time period I have also been tutoring the guitar for the C.D.U. Centre for Youth Music and the N.T. Music School.
In 2006 I completed my Diploma in Secondary Education, with this paper I wish contribute to the N.T. schooling system and use his skills to travel overseas gaining further experiences in music and teaching, I am also looking to record a new album.
