Sound of Singles

BandAmericanaAlternative

Dark American from the side of the road. Sound of Singles play songs of the broken hearted and lost with a faint glimmer of hope for salvation.

Biography

Sound of Singles is the solo project of Gerald J. Schoenherr, steel guitarist of Chapel Hill, NC’s now defunct slow-core-southern-love-droner’s Mount Moriah.

During the late 80's Gerald recorded Industrial music under the name Liquid Desires and Acid House music under the name Rhinoscope. During the 90's Gerald focused on French and Swedish bagpipe music and could be heard playing on street corners in Madison, WI with the band the Bog People.

In 2002 Gerald moved to North Carolina and started Sound of Singles which began as echoing layers of electric and steel guitar and songs of desperation and longing with a nod to 70’s outlaw country as has evolved into a somewhat folkier acoustic/electric hybrid.

Sound of Singles is currently at work on a full length project titled "San Juan to Mayaguez," which will be more acoustic driven, as well as 7" of Bob Seger covers.

Boots

Boots
By G. J. Schoenherr

Lord I want the girl with the cowboy boots for Christmas
The one with the long curly hair, I think she’s so cute
I know that if I could make her mine, I would treat her fine
Lord I want the girl with the cowboy boots for Christmas

Lord sometimes I get so tired of being alone
And I just want someone I can call my own
I’d stop drinking bourbon and running red lights
If I could take her home tonight
And Lord I want the girl with the cowboy boots for Christmas

Lord sometimes this scene just seems so empty
Everybody wants something, no one’s got nothing to give
Sometimes I think I should leave this town
But that look in her eyes keeps me hanging around
And Lord I want the girl with the cowboy boots for Christmas

Dead Dog on the Road

Written By: Gerald J. Schoenherr

Dead dog on the road
I wonder what he was doing there
Maybe he was just out for a walk
Maybe he was chasing some tail

Lord, I don't want to end up
Another dead dog on the road

I walked sixteen miles in the mud and the briar
I was chased by hounds in the rain
But the scent of the pines and your porchlight
Brought me home like a boat in a hurricane

Lord, I don't want to end up
Another dead dog on the road

Maybe it was those magnetic fields
Maybe just a scent in the air
Maybe I had wandered to long
And ceased to even care

But, Lord I don't want to end up
Another dead dog on the road

Call it radar or call it fate
Call it what you damn well please
Theres nothing better than making it home
Once your brought down to your knees

And, Lord I don't want to end up
Another dead dog on the road
