Sounds Like Dave

On the second floor of an unassuming building in Vancouvers trendy Mount Pleasant, a handful of seasoned musicians wander from room to room, picking up ukeleles, guitars, and in Johns case, the phone. Meet the guys of Wave Productions and the members of Jazz/Funk/Rock fusion band, Sounds Like Dave.

By day, the Wave family create post-production sound for TV and Radio commercials. But once a week they come together to share a common joy live performance.

One day, we just kind of realized that we had the unique situation of being able to put together almost an entire band with just the core Wave employees, explains Colin Weinmaster, senior Wave partner, composer and trombonist.

While a brief survey of influences yields some disparate results, there are a few names that surface from virtually all of the members: The Jazz Crusaders, Frank Zappa, James Brown, Herby Hancock. Its little wonder the unofficial band credo is if you cant do the tune for 8 minutes, dont do it.

Who the heck is Dave?
Sounds Like Dave is a relative of what the cockney rhyming slang may have been for Sounds Like Wave; named for both the business and Trombonist and composer Colin Weinmasters musically prodigious father Dave, who was notorious for misremembering names.
