"Recent Press (2011)"

Entertainment Weekly
"I don't know who these Sounds Under Radio folk are trying to fool, but that is a big-time rock 'n' roll band masquerading as some unsigned indie-emo whatsits."

Spin Magazine
"Sounds Under Radio's blend of soaring U2-esque melodies and new-wave rhythmic propulsion serves as the main attraction, placing the band's arena rock-sized performance abilities almost exclusively on display."

Soundcheck Magazine
"Sounds Under Radio grounds their sound in classic rock while fusing elements of earnest passion from British rock bands like Radiohead, Travis, and Muse with experimental, viral hooks and seditious melodies. The result is a dynamic sound that accomplishes exactly what Freeman says the aim for; radio friendly tracks that are deeper and more vibrant than most radio."

Absolute Punk
“Sounds Under Radio have the sound and presence of a big-time band”
“Whether you’re seeking something rousing or heart-tugging, there’s something here for you”

“Every track is wracked with truth, emotional depth and sincerity, revealing the scars we all hide deep inside our bodies and our souls.”
“SUR’s live showcase at this year’s SXSW was a blistering performance charged with heaven-sent arpeggios and screaming melodies that earned them a ton of respect amongst fans and industry folk alike.”

Indie Rock Café:
“Sounds Under Radio, we think, could turn out to be a Band to Watch in 2011”

San Antonio Express News
“Sounds Under Radio serves up rock in which grandeur meets the heart of Texas. The songs on the new CD run from haunting (“Fire Escape”) to soaring with a forbidding metal edge (“Army of me”). Like any good Texas band, Sounds Under Radio never loses the backbeat.”

« Austin’s Britrock-esque quartet Sounds Under Radio channels the anthemic melodicism of Coldplay and Muse on their latest single “Sing”. »

“I've never heard a Texan alternative rock band who brings the best of UK melodic rock bands, like Muse, Radiohead, with a dash of the decidedly non UK Nine Inch Nails.”
“The record is just SOLID all the way through.”

Just Press Play
“The Austin-based Sounds Under Radio takes the traditional Britrock arena anthem sound and makes it their own”

Outside The Dial
“Throughout the entire listening experience, the blend of songs helps explore the triumphs and the failures of our lives and confronting some of our deepest scars.”

Explore Music:
“Sounds like Americanized Verve.”

NBC San Diego:
“Sounds Under Radio go over the top”

Red River Noise:
« Sounds Under Radio established their own Americanized Brit flair style with the manipulation of deep and creative musical motifs »

The Byke Rack
“Sounds Under Radio use eloquent and vivid wordplay to convey these musings, rounding this disc out with intellect to pair up with the accomplished musicianship.”

“Their sophomore effort has the band expanding on their vibrant Brit-rock sound, distorted guitars, pummeling rhythms, and break neck speed tempos”

Yummy Mummy
“Their single 'Sing' is brilliant as it is catchy, memorable and beautiful.”

“Needless to say this Austin-based Britrock-esque trio had me hooked from the first listen.”

“At the moment it's most definitely on my 'stranded on an island and I have to listen these songs over and over again' playlist.”

Austin Chronicle
"The biggest little indie band in town, Sounds Under Radio”

With their sophomore release, Where My Communist Heart Meets My Capitalist Mind, Sounds Under Radio continues to build upon the foundational musical truths that they established through their first full length release Cinematica (2008). These are the contrasts between light and dark, guarded and vulnerable, specific and vague that yield a stadium sized, anthemic musical demeanor juxtaposed with quiet, personal intimacy. Through their highly melodic Americanized Brit Rock flair (reminiscent of bands like Muse, Brand New, Dredge and Editors) this Austin TX rock quartet have forged an audience and a sound uniquely their own.

Members Lang Freeman, Bradley Oliver, Sonny Sanchez and Doug Wilson, first began to collaborate in mid 2005. In 2008, following complicated label politics at Epic Records, the band regained their independence and self-released Cinematica which was followed by 2 years of heavy grassroots national touring in support of the album. Since 2007 the band has found a string of successes in film and TV with placements in Spider Man 3 (Sony Pictures), The Wolfman (Universal Pictures), War Games: The Dead Code (MGM Pictures) and most recently in the CW's 'The Vampire Diaries' and the hit FOX television show 'American Idol.'

By every account Where My Communist Heart Meets My Capitalist Mind is a record about politics- though it has nothing to do with domestic or international affairs. It is a record about people and the internal governing of the self. This is a record about the HEAD versus the HEART and how we choose to cope with their agreements and their disagreements. It explores the outcomes of when they either align, or don’t. This album is a living document of Sounds Under Radio as musicians, friends and people sifting through their our own broken pieces, reopening wounds of personal war and confronting their own deepest scars.

Utilizing themes of propaganda and covert communication, the band's ever present morse code logo also plays an integral roll in both the art and concept of this record. This is an album that investigates a marriage of opposites and the collision of conflicting forces. Intimacy is merged with moments of grandeur and beautiful things are destroyed by the grotesque... all with the purpose of seeing what remains when the dust settles. The album is out now through The Musebox / EMI.
