Biography

Southern California native Sound the Sky is currently a four piece alternative rock band blending a vast variety of experience and influence to create a singular sound. Reminiscence for listeners includes that of harder post punk/rock meshed and fronted by powerful bellowing vocals. The style and sound is refreshing and truly unique, already captivating many listeners. The band initially formed in late winter of 2009 by singer Cassie Purtlebaugh and bassist Shawn Averil. By Spring 2010 their 3 song demo "Fight or Flight" was released, immediately gaining them praise. The band has played various benefits concerts gaining them press in the Ventura Star. They've also been included in a commercial designed for air-play on local rock station Live 105.5. Likewise, they've received mentions in the VC Reporter and have been featured on AMP Magazine's websites "Free Music" section. In the summer of 2011 they won a spot to play Warped Tour in Ventura through the Ernie Ball Battle of the Bands contest. Other notable performances include California Lutheran University's annual Clu-stock. The fall of 2011 brought the release of their 1st EP titled "Vows & Vouchers". A few member changes later created the current lineup of original members Cassie and Shawn with addition of drummer Scott Winters and guitarist Mead Whippo. With vigor and energy they continue to enthrall and engage many.
