Bio

Jonah Phillip was born in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. He has one older brother, Aaron and his parents are Aileen and Peter Phillip.

However, his cross-cultural heritage is unique, with his mom being white and Jewish and his dad being Christian and black from Grenada. Jonah faced discrimination growing up in a predominantly white neighborhood.

Getting into hip-hop music became a form of expression for him. Looking up to artist he could identify with like 2pac, Eminem, 50 Cent and Drake intrigued him by the way they were using they’re music to vent they’re frustrations. This inspired him to write and he started falling in love with music and started going by the alias of “Source.”

Now known to his friends and peers as “Source,” was discovered in Toronto at a series of Open Mic and Talent Agency Events. Before he started performing, he was writing and recording music. He then started marketed himself amongst his peers and working with one of his friends that went by the name of Merchant Beats that would play the role of his leading producer. After raising his profile and gaining notoriety and respect from his peers, he started building a fan base.

After accumulating a compilation of songs he released his first mixtape in 2009, entitled "Source Vol. 1”. After receiving positive reviews and dramatically improving his craft, he decided to take things to the next level and start performing. He went and set up a few auditions with talent agencies. After conducting his first audition, he was scheduled to take part in Supernova's Showdown 2011 edition. After winning the competition, he was automatically enrolled in the finals at Sound Academy.

After gaining momentum and further building up his resume with his cocky and laid back persona. Source is now performing at local venues and is currently working on material for his second upcoming highly anticipated mixtape that is scheduled for release sometime in 2013.

Jonah feels that his creations capture vivid moments in time and it is important to him that his material is honest. "When ever I listen to older songs of mine it's over whelming for me because I can't believe I was able to capture the moment so precisely and it brings back memories," he says. Source is now ready to take his music to the next level to show everyone that he is a force to be reckoned with. - Exclusive
