Bio

South 40 is a Country/Rock Red Dirt band that plays all over the Mid/Southwest with bands like Stoney Larue, Randy Rogers Band and Jason Boland. The songs are good, the beer is cold and as the great Randy Crouch said, "we got time to party with you".

Having played honkytonks & beer joints since he was 12, Jay Falkner started South 40 and hasn’t looked back. With its latest release, “HOME”, South 40’s songs conjure up imagines of growing up in a small town, wondering what else life has to offer & eventually returning HOME.

The songs on "Home", recorded at Cedar Creek studios in Austin, TX, reflect the influences of the band, which range from classic & current country, southern rock, red dirt, blues and alt-country. "I grew up listening to Waylon Jennings, the Allman Brothers, Stevie Ray Vaughn and Merle Haggard" says Falkner, "I am a country boy, so I think that has an influence on the songs I write, but I think they are also influenced by current artists such as Bruce Robison, Ryan Adams, Radney Foster, and Dierks Bentley. "

Quotes:
* Gary Hizer, Urban Tulsa,
“…In all honesty, I haven't heard a local country record as solid as South 40's debut disc in a long time... …Sure, there's some rock and Southern rock influences there, but to my ears it's country more than anything else. In fact, South 40 may well be more country than many of the bands and CD's that are marketed in that genre anymore.

*Roger Ray of Jason Boland and the Stragglers:
“Having grown up in a small town myself, I feel like I can immediately relate to the kind of heart wrenching soul Jay Falkner conveys through his vocals and guitar playing. These guys are the real deal.”
