KJ and Josh have been playing in bands together since 2004, but were never happy with the bands they were in. So in early 2006 in Athens, Ga.(have since relocated to Atlanta, Ga.) they formed Southern Hostility. They decided to form a band to play the music they wanted to hear. A style heavily influenced by the greatest bands of heavy music history and of southern rock history. Bands like Pantera, Slayer, Allman Brothers Band, Black Label Society, Lynyrd Skynyrd, and of course the greatest band of all time Black Sabbath. What Southern Hostility does musically is take the influence of their favorite bands and making a sound completely their own. Its "Metal aggression with Southern groove" says lead guitarist Josh Gee. Southern Hostility's style is a complete departure from what is "popular" in "metal" today. Southern Hostility plays true metal, metal with balls, metal with substance! "We play the kind of metal that our idols play. We play metal that our heroes would be proud to hear!" says Josh Gee. "We play the style of metal we want to hear! We don't give a fuck about trends or whats popular, cause whats popular today isn't metal, its shit! We play what sounds good to us, period! And I know that people are just dying for a return of true metal and we're bringing it back!" says frontman KJ. Between December 2007-April 2008, Southern Hostility recorded their album titled VRA! VRA is set for release on Friday June 20th!
