"South Side Totems join Mosher on Steady Terms, a pan-Arctic lament laced with raw language. The emotionally challenging song sketches the frustration of indigenous youth struggling with contemporary urban life.
Colonialism, alcoholism, suicide, crime, child abuse, domestic violence and "zombies of the government" are the Arctic afflictions condemned by Mosher's words. Hip hop is the medicine." -Northern News Article

"Mosher Folger's debut album, Eskimocentricity, confronts Arctic problems head-on, treating violence, suicide, substance abuse, and other afflictions in raw terms that people can't avoid, hoping to heal Arctic communities. The album's Alaskan guest-artists, South Side Totems, appear on one track. The album will be released online Aug. 11, but the story didn't mention where exactly. Check out South Side Totems' website here." -Alaskan Dispatch Article - Northern News & Alaskan Dispatch

"Local Artists-Southside Totems"

November 20, 2007
Tuesday AM

Greetings to all Sitnews Readers.

I'm writing this letter to inform some of you, because you may not be aware that a local group of artists are debuting their album at Videl. The name of the group is Southside Totems, and the name of the album is Mass Destruction.

Now, if you like rap with some hip hop then this is right up your alley, if not, well, you should support your local artists anyway and give it away maybe as a gift to someone who does. I bought the cd from Kelly White himself (he's one of the main guys), and I have to say I am VERY pleased. My brother who's a big country fan (far from rap and hip hop) thinks the cd is pretty good as well. My son LOVES the cd and already has a favorite, its track 3 Stand Still.

These are some local guys, grew up in Saxman and have a dream to make it big. I honestly have to say, I'm really proud of these guys, and hope for the best for them!

Seriously, go show some support, who knows, when they make it big, become really famous you can tell everyone you have their first cd. They'll make you proud.

Bio

Southside Totems has been producing music since 2002 in a small village Saxman, Alaska. In Saxman we have learned unique values through stories and music that teaches about respect, perseverance, humility, and self-awareness that has defined our accomplishments and misconduct. These ethical values has allowed Southside Totems to utilize their everyday experiences to help define a higher dignified morality previously considered insignificant by us, as well as others. Our creative lyrical poetry allows us to expand our imagination as well as provide experiences that elaborates our self-awareness.

Southside Totems can provide not only musical performances, but also theatrical drama as well by reenacting Alaskan Native Legends. By combining theatrical and musical performances, Southside Totems provides a unique show that no other group can provide as a means of entertainment.
