Bio

With their high energy and alternative rock sound, South Street has begun to draw attention around Charleston and the surrounding areas. Their diverse musical backgrounds create an original sound that listeners can't help but nod their head to, transcending genres such as rock, funk, reggae, and punk. They released their first studio project "66" last fall to great acclaim both from critics and from fans, and plan to release their first full album fall 2013. South Street has shared the stage with acts such as The Expendables, Pacific Dub, Fear Nuttin Band, Passafire, Old Crow Medicine Show, and many more great bands.

It all started with some Pita's and a fire cracker of a boss who loved playing match maker. Lead singer Dexter Jenks and rhythm guitarist JR Spencer met while working at the glorious Pita Pit after their corky boss insisted the two musicians meet. After a soulful jam of "Under the Bridge" between Dexter, JR, and lead guitarist Brian "Hutch" Hutchinson, there was no question that the sound should be pursued, and other members should be brought on board to help fulfill it's potential. With that, Sam Roberts (drummer), a close friend of Dexter's, was brought to jam, and soon thereafter John Barry (bass).

Full band jams did not take place until the following fall. For the first few months, the band wrote and built a library of original songs. During this time, the 5 musicians dubbed themselves South Street, as so much of their time playing together was done at Dexter and Sam's house, which at the time resided at 66 South Street. The band christened their sound and name with a live performance at a South Street house party. After a few more house parties, South Street moved into the Charleston music scene and beyond by playing around bars and venues.

South Street is made up of a bunch of rambunctious goons who share an undying love for music and Hardee's....word.
