"Episode 023- Space Koi"

Hello everyone! Thanks for joining me for another great episode of the AVR Podcast! On this episode, I speak with local reggae band Space Koi! Their EP, Skank Jam, is full of fun, exciting songs with classic punk, reggae, and blues vibes, all with a special Richmond twist. All of the members of this band have been a part of some other great projects in this city, and have now come together through a wonderful turn of events to create this new amazing group.
We talk a little bit about how each member of the band has been connected deeply to music from a very young age, and how that has shaped their love of music and their desire to create. Also, we spoke about the recording process, and Garrett offers a few tips about how to record while on a budget. They also spacekoiiidescribe some of the hardships of pursuing a life in music, and reveal the fact that most of their time is spent working on music in some way. It would also benefit EVERYONE to pay attention to Jake’s comments about the Boomerang extension for Google and scheduled posts on Facebook!

I hope you enjoy this episode, and don’t forget to check out Space Koi at Emilio’s every first Wednesday of the month (11/02: First Wednesdays at Emilio’s with Space Koi)!

And start getting ready now for Skanks-giving at Bandito’s on 11/23!

Thanks to Space Koi and the B+B for making this awesome episode happen!

Love,
Steve - AVR: Artistic Vision Review

"Space Koi - Skank Jams"

Space Koi’s “Skank Jam,” a four song EP, officially dropped today, September 1. The album’s genre is ska. It is very chill, and makes several references to areas of Richmond, such as Texas Beach and Shockoe Bottom. The album features saxophone on many of the tracks. This summer release is a good throwback to bands such as Sublime. To listen to the album, visit: https://spacekoi.bandcamp.com/album/skank-jams. - Laura's Music Blog
