"The Space To Be Yourself Project – McGarrigles – Saturday 22nd July."

"The band is fronted by Sligo’s Yngve Wieland, who can put pen to paper and end up with raw and emotive lyrics that most singer-songwriters can only dream of producing. These lyrics, which could give Conor Oberst a run for his money, are complemented by intricate guitar hooks and a very individual strumming technique which makes even the most uncomplicated chord progressions sound new and different"

"I was genuinely impressed by the overall sound, and style of this six-piece band. The vocals were fantastic especially when Mulqueen and Ruth combined in harmony with Yngve and also during their solo verses. Each member of the band really did contribute something special, and it was evident that The Space To Be Yourself concept was more than just that. There were a couple of songs that stood out particularly, including an amazingly catchy tune titled “Little Boy,” which is a hit single waiting to happen. “(Sing a) Protest Song,” as one of the faster tunes is a real foot-tapper. “Gondola Song” is also a true gem, with fantastic lyrics, and three part harmonies, it will undoubtedly evoke something in you – which is the mark of true musicianship. “Leather Book” and “Innocence” were also performed fantastically, as well as a cover version of “The Weight” by The Band.
The faster songs will make you want to get up and dance, and sing along as you do so, while the slower ones will leave you feeling like you’re witnessing something really special." - The Scene

Bio

"...slots in seamlessly alongside the major names in contemporary Americana, from M.Ward and Conor Oberst to Butch Walker and Jenny Lewis" Dave Donnelly [Allmusic.com]

".. an alt. folk diamond in the rough." [HOTPRESS July 2010]

Yngve & The Innocent, the brilliant Americana band release their new single this March. “Draw A Line” and B-side “Changing Tracks” build upon the traditions of The Band, Bob Dylan and Tom Waits, marrying great Americana with a folky, bluesy heart. The Songs are laid on timeless melodies, a swan-song for lost
hopes swelling to a rallying cry for the ideals of beauty, love and truth.

If you keep on fighting // The current to reach the source
You shall never falter // Or be diverted from your course …

The lyrics of A-side ‘Draw A Line’ could read as a manifesto for Yngve & The Innocent’s attitude to music.
Never wavering from their ideas of what great music is, or being swayed by current trends, Yngve has built a
beautifully organic country blues base from which to deliver his lyrics.

To achieve the rich warmth on the recording, the band laid the tracks down live on to 1” tape, on one of the
last analogue set ups left in the country at Soup Studios. With Simon Trought (The Kills, Treetop Flyers)
recording, the band have achieved a depth of sound that matches Yngve’s soaring skills as a songwriter.

German-born and Irish-raised, Yngve (pronounced Ing-Vuh) has been simmering under the skin of the music
industry since 2004. Growing up in rural Sligo in the eighties, his dad’s weekly blues sessions fuelled his
interest in music. Fast-forward to 2008, Yngve formed new touring band, The Innocent, and has been making a
name for himself in the London scene. Yngve has (amongst numerous headline appearances both solo and
with a full band) shared bills with acts as diverse as Deathray Trebuchet, Danny & The Champions of the
World, Katell Keineg, Treetop Flyers, Television Personalities and Paul Weller. They have also played
storming sets at festivals including The Belfast Arts Festival, Secret Garden Party and Castlepalooza.

The band have already won great acclaim in Ireland and are regularly play-listed across the national radio
stations. Past release 'Tell Men This' was selected by Jump.ie as one of the Best 3 Irish Indie Albums Of
2008. The album track 'Little Boy' was also selected by Irish music mag Hot Press to have a video made for
it by the famous New York Tisch School for the Arts. This video was subsequently nominated in the 'Best Solo
Male' Category in the 2009 IMTV Video Music Awards.
