Von Tracy Jacks, zweiter Song auf Blurs 94er Album Parklife. Dem Album, das fast so gut ist wie Oasis’ Morning Glory.

Das wiederum fast so gut ist wie Tracys Love&Cheesecake. Die vier Halbstarken aus Leipzig beweisen auf ihrem 2020er Debüt, dass geniales Songwriting keine Frage des Jahrzehnts und Selbstverliebtheit keine Frage des Aussehens ist - wenngleich Paul, Leo, Jerre und Hans zugegebenermaßen wirklich schön sind. Hier trifft ungekünstelte Energie auf Hooks, die man mit ins Bett nimmt. Zeitloser Sound bringt frischen Wind in die Kiste und bollert sich seinen Weg direkt ins Gesicht. Da gibt’s kein Ausweichen, wenn Majesty aufmacht: Tick, Tick: Boom! Hier habt ihr sie, die Melodie, die nicht altert. Tracy liefert die Ewigkeit, die alle suchen. Die, die mit Bowie gestorben schien.

Um es kurz zu machen: Die Band weiß, dass sie groß ist. Ganz einfach, weil sie die besseren Songs hat. Und weil sie sich nicht verstellen muss: Am Ende des Tages geht es halt doch nur um Rock’n’Roll. Ja, genau die Musik, die die Beatles berühmt gemacht hat und die dank Coldplay vor die Hunde geht. Insofern verstehen sich Tracy mit ihrem Debüt nicht nur als Retter einer verloren geglaubten Ehrlichkeit, sondern auch als Propheten einer goldenen Zeit. In der das Kind wieder beim Namen genannt wird und nicht mehr mit Kokolores wie Indie oder Alternative gebrandmarkt ist. Denn mal ganz unter uns: Was machen die Arctic Monkeys anders als die Kinks? Richtig, nichts.

Which is almost as good as Tracy’s Love&Cheesecake. With their 2020 debut the four lads from Leipzig demonstrate that brilliant songwriting is neither an issue of the decade nor is self-infatuation an issue of beauty - even though Paul, Leo, Jerre and Hans look gorgeous. Rough energy and hooks, you are going to take to bed, form a timeless sound that kicks asses and refreshes at the same time. There is no hiding when Majesty kicks in: Tick, tick, boom! Here we go with melodies that will not grow old. Tracy delivers that eternity, everybody’s looking for. The one that has seemed to be gone with Bowie.

Long story short; the four know how great they can be. Simply because they have the better songs, and they have no need to dissemble. As we all know, at the end of the day it is all about Rock’n’Roll. Yes, that kind of music that made The Beatles famous and that has been threatened to get killed by Coldplay. That is why Tracy see themselves as saviours of a lost honesty as well as prophets of a golden age when the child is called by its name again and not by bullshit terms like Indie or Alternative. Because hands down — what are the Arctic Monkeys doing different thanThe Kinks have done? Exactly, nothing.
