Spare Parts is best known to locals for high-energy covers of everyone from Heart and Pat Benatar to Lady Gaga and Rick James. So when the band went in to record originals at Red Tree Studios in Magnolia, a change was in order.
"We felt like it was a good idea to separate the two bands," says vocalist Linda Lambert.
For original shows, the band will be known as August 83, an homage to the month and year guitarist Mike Lambert married Linda. It was just two days after Hurricane Alicia hit Houston. (They'll still perform cover shows as Spare Parts.)
"It was crazy — mismatched tuxedo shirts, water in the church and a very noisy honeymoon night at a nice hotel packed with families who were without power," Lambert recalls.
August 83's new disc, Music From Bedrooms, includes five originals "with a funky pop-R&B feel" and a cover of the Pretenders' Brass In Pocket. The band is hoping for a mid-October release.

Spare Parts has entertained Houston and it's surrounding areas since 1994. Nominated by their fans in 2010 in the Houston Press Music Awards as Houston's Best Cover Band, they continue to be the premier choice for music entertainment among clubs, restaurants, festivals and more. The band's founding members, Mike and Linda Lambert envisioned a band that would encompass several genres of music and would appeal to a broad audience. One of Houston's favorite party bands, Spare Parts plays a wide variety of great dance music and creates a set list based on the type of venue or event. The band has a large repertoire consisting of Pop, R&B, Dance, Classic Rock, Funk, Blues, Adult Contemporary & Country. Spare Parts is a true ensemble of professional musicians who deliver a high energy show, demonstrate real musical ability and are committed to maintaining their exceptional performance standards. Comprised of a female vocalist and male vocalists, bass, drums, guitar keyboards and saxophone, Spare Parts handles many styles of music with ease. Spare Parts plays many diverse venues including clubs, private parties, restaurants, corporate events, charity events, weddings, live radio broadcasts & festivals. They have been influenced by a wide variety of great artisits. Fleetwood Mac, Linda Ronstadt. Santana, Stevie Ray Vaughn, Eric Clapton, John Mayer, Bruce Springsteen, Sheryl Crow, Sting, Patti Labelle, Aretha Franklin, Joe Cocker, Heart, Mary Chapin Carpenter, John Mellencamp & Pat Benatar are some of the many artists which influence their music.
