Over the past decade, Adelaide singer/songwriter and producer Gabrielle Hyde has traversed many genres and monickers, with the most recent of her pseudonyms being 'Sparky'.
Wideley regarded by this young musician's followers as 'her best stuff yet', Sparky's debut self-titled EP contains tracks that are wonderfully reminiscent of those nostalgic R&B smash hits from the 90's that are pulled out at most parties if you were born after '85. When her soulful vocal arrangements are combined with the subtle use of guitar licks over old-style hip hop beats, she effortlessly channels acts like Destiny's Child and Aaliyah whilst maintaining the originality for which she is best known.
With the official launch date and show approaching on March 22nd 2013, Sparky has been generating a great deal of buzz. She is often appearing on the upper end of the JJJ unearthed charts and music blogs, but she is most present when one of her dangerously catchy melodies spends days in your head. March will start the chain reaction of planned shows for Sparky, and she will touring the east coast of Australia with her impressive live show that is both musically and visually ambitious and memorable.
In short, you've gotta hear this.
