Bio

Speakers for the Dead has just signed a record deal with Magna Carta Records out of New York. Speakers for the Dead has been together for just a year but is made up of 4 guys that have been in the scene for while. Vocalist Curtis Shamlin founded the band along with guitarist Jason Garcia. Both were former original members of GRYP, from 1996 - 2003. GRYP had several ..1 singles on national and international loud radio, got spins on over 250 radio stations world-wide, at one time ranked ..2 on Mp3.com's overall chart between ..1 The Beatles and .. 3 Bon Jovi, ..1 on Music Choice, ..1 on DMX, had an article in Metal Edge as 1 of the top 30 bands to look out for in 2002, had music played on MTV's Road Rules, toured the U.S. for over 6 years, sold over 25,000 albums as an indie, and much more. After GRYP’s record label, W Records (a division of Walden Media), folded and it’s album subsequently tucked away in a catalog never to be released, each member of the band decided to work on separate projects. In early 2004, Curtis decided to team up with Jason Garcia again. They spent some time trying to find other musicians to complete their project. Drummer Gary Shipman was the next to join the band. He had been in several bands in town over the years, most notably “Dirtnap.” After going through a few bass players, the band is now complete with Rob Slocum, former member of Fresno bands More than Without and September Children. Speakers for the Dead is in the process of recording their new album in Fresno with Peter Wolf of Wolfsound Audio Engineering. Their full length album is due to be released in the U. S., Europe, and Japan in March 2006. Be on the lookout for an upcoming music video, press, summer tour, and radio play. You can still get the band’s first demo at Tower Records and Kaleidoscope in Fresno, Towerrecords.com, Cdbaby.com and while stock lasts, at any upcoming Speakers for the Dead show.
