Special Meds

Seattle-based band Special Meds has a prescription for what ails you: Take off your pants, and light them on fire. Once you hear the band perform, you might just wanna drop trou and flick your Bic, like the song says. Funk this fun has a way of making you lose your head.

All organ-driven, horn-punched party riffs, Special Meds foists a pure flavor of funk that has fallen out of favor among today's world-beat-blending jamsters. These guys haven't forgotten that ear-catching melodies and deep grooves always trump instrumental acrobatics and non-stop noodling. It's hard to imagine a crowd of Seattle hipsters getting into this stuff; but it's perfect for Missoula's hoards of dance-happy hippies.

Special Meds doubles the dose this week, with performances at the Top Hat on Friday, Sept. 9; and at the Missoula Hempfest on Saturday, Sept. 10. - The Missoulan
