Spectral Foci

Spectral Foci is a progressive/experimental rock band formed by Kevin Schwaller and Matthew Billings in 2006. Spectral Foci began recording a few months before bassist, Andy Gibbs, joined the band. The EP was recorded by Kevin (guitar, effects, editing) and Matthew (drums, bass, piano, editing, mixing) in a crude home studio with little equipment other than instruments and a computer, making the best out of what was available, including a failing click track. The band enlisted the recording studio "Say it Again Studios" run by Scott O. in Homewood, IL in order to record the drum parts. The EP includes: 1. litany 2. if pretend... 3. sanguine noon 4. "...and between the wasteland and sky"

The EP features an eclectic range of musical styles, including heavy, psychedelic effect soundscapes, jazzy jams, and raw energy contrasted with brilliant melodic passages. However, it is only a glimpse of the band's greater vision for a high quality, full-length album. This future album will be conceptual, focusing on the journey of a person trying to evade the complications of modern society, and finding answers through an escape to an alternate reality. The first two tracks on the EP are designed as to fit as the first two tracks on the planned LP; the last two tracks are also intended to close out the future LP.

The band plans to start working on the album as they solicit their demo to various labels. In addition to Spectral Foci, Andy, Kevin, and Matthew are full time students at the University of Missouri, where most of the music is written. The band is still trying to locate a singer, and will soon begin to perform at local venues in the Columbia, MO area sure to be packed with extended jam sessions, added effects, and a highly energetic atmosphere. Spectral Foci is also in the process of booking their own summer tour in small venues throughout Missouri, Illinois, Indiana, New Jersey, New York, and Pennsylvania.
