Bio

SPEED NYC. is the current re-formed, semi re-located, wholly re-incarnated progression of Vancouver Indie Pop Garage band 'The Speed', most notable for their minor indie hit "Thanks for Your Love" and it's well received accompanying video, which was distributed on mobile phone music video networks throughout Canada, US and the UK as well as screened at the 2006 Milan Film Festival as a part of the adjunct Digifest exhibition.

With wider exposure, ironically, the band was soon forced, by the pre-existence of a French reggae outfit, also 'The Speed', to change the band name just before pre-production for the first full length album was set to begin, after their two fine, 2005 and 2006, EP releases. As the group sat and agonized over a suitable and agreeable replacement moniker the outfit lingered in limbo and eventually two members - drums, keyboards, left the organization.

Surfacing in NYC in 2007, and buoyed by sounds of the big apple, SPEED NYC was re-re-formed by a re-configured Johnnie Andrew - vocals, guitars, harmonica who sought now to continue the classic west coast Speed sound with a back east big city style.

After a period of pre-production with noted eccentric Mic Noodles, and along with Les Speed - bass, vocals, keyboards, the re-styled SPEED NYC. began work late in 2007 on their new and upcoming 2008 recordings at the Kitsch Rehearsals in Vancouver, B.C. and Maritime Sound in NYC. along with the excellent Ben Agiter on drums, percussion.

Building on their inimitable west coast slack stylings and new wave sensabilities while also harkening the fresh sounds of current contemporaries 'School of Seven Bells', 'MGMT' and 'Louis XIV' with the danceability of 'LCD Soundsystem' and 'The Bravery', the SPEED NYC. can get moody with the likes of the 'Yeah, Yeah, Yeahs', fuzz it up with 'the Raveonettes' and/or trip the psychedelia fantastic-o-rama with the 'Blonde Redhead' to dish out their own unique electro grunge punk surf dance rock n roll tasty cheese freeze sounds of a world gone wholly -- S, P, double E, D, N, Y, C... Let's Go!

A measure of reggae, a splash of mr. Dylan, with a touch of Blondie and a dash of Joe S., some more reggae, a hint of country on a bit of punk and the latest SPEED NYC. flows like fine Canadian maple syrup over a stack of big city style buttermilk pancakes with upstate hand churned butter and big glass of farm fresh milk * -- after a week or two of all nite rock n roll danceclub partying -- to wash it all down!!

MMMMMM.... Yummy. The new sounds taste and feel so, so good... Dig in Scenesters ;-) and Enjoy!
