"My Philosophy"

Hang Loose is a new local platter to check for by Venezuelan-born MC Speedy Gonzales. The Latin flav is real heavy on this eight-track release, laced with Speedy's gruff-voiced bars and silky R&B vocals courtesy of Latin Rose and Todd Brown. From for-the-ladies jams to straight crunk bangers, Speedy's straightforward flow, charismatic narration, and adept hook-crafting is pretty engaging; the sound is real radio but raw enough that I ain't at all mad at it. Featuring guest spots from Unexpected Arrival and Crytical, cop this if you can find it.

"Album Review"

The eight track CD has kinda ended up in the album section, because it’s more of an album than an EP. Right this is something that fans of mainstream club banging tracks with lashings of r’n’b type hooks. Personally I think it lacks in certain areas, as all the tracks are really good, but there isn’t one stand out track. I would have like to seen Speedy try a few different styles, but then with only eight tracks I suppose he does have to come thick and fast. I would like to hear his recent tracks and an album with more tracks and more solo tracks. Good rapper and somebody to keep an eye on.

Bio

Speedy was born in Venezuela and moved to New York City at the age of four. It was here on the streets of Queens he discovered his love of hip-hop and began developing his unique lyrical style. At twelve his family left the East Coast for the Emerald City. His first EP, Hang Loose, was released in 2005 and received positive reviews from local publications such as The Stranger. In addition, he has been featured on tracks from many local artists.

Speedy’s music is 100% original and reflects both the positive and the negative aspects of his experience. Although his music heats up the underground scene on a regular basis Speedy does not believe in separating commercial and underground sound. Instead he prefers to combine the two, reaching a wider audience, while all the time delivering solid lyrical content accompanied by a dynamic, innovative soundtrack.
His next album, “While You Were Sleeping”, is scheduled to release towards the end of 2008 and is definitely something to watch out for.
