A Spencer Barefield is an award winning guitarist, composer and ensemble leader who has toured and recorded throughout USA, Canada, Europe and elsewhere. His resume includes legendary jazz musicians like Richard Davis, Lester Bowie, Roscoe Mitchell, Oliver Lake, Andrew Cyrille, Anthony Braxton, David Murray, Marcus Belgrave, Dave McMurray, Tani Tabbal, Jaribu Shahid, James Carter, Regina Carter, Marion Hayden, Kenn Cox, George Lewis and many others. He has received awards for composition and performance for NEA, MCACA, Meet the Composer/Commission USA, Lila Wallace Foundation, ATT/Reader's Digest Foundation, Arts Midwest, Arts International, ArtServe Michigan/ MCACA, Michigan Governor's Arts Award and others. His recordings have received much praise for excellence and have been cited in the critics polls of downbeat, Jazz Times, Cadence, Coda, Metro Times and many other publications.
