Spherical

Oliver Fischer is the composer and guitarist while Hanns Clasen entirely focusses on his Bass. The groove himself is the excellent Jazzdrummer Kai Bussenius, Martin Mengel plays the trumpet, Chris Lüers the trombone, Markus Schröder on the Keyboards and the charismatic lead singer with her soulful energetic voice is Claudia Valtierra. Inspired by the old funk and soul classics by Curtis Mayfield, Marvin Gaye, Roy Ayers, Ella Fitzgerald and Billie Holliday that already served as a blueprint for modern paragons like Sharon Jones and Amy Winehouse, Spherical´s finely-honed songs also pay homage to more current purveyors of cutting-edge pop like Erykah Badu, Jill Scott, Moloko or Cinematic Orchestra.

Nine extensive tours of Germany, Switzerland, Austria, France and Italy saw Spherical sharing the stage with the likes of Nils Petter Molvaer, Raz O’Hara, Mondo Fumatore, Etro Anime and Kosheen or german artists Patrice, Kreidler, Mo’Horizons, Jazzkantine, Niels Frevert and Dirk Darmstädter. The media, too, was quick to praise the band´s inspired sound: while “Hamburger Abendblatt” heralded them as a “stellar new addition to the Hamburg club firmament”, music magazine Intro wrote: ”Anyone who wants to experience the club sound of the new millennium should not miss out on the band´s live performances.” Even BBC said: Spherical is one of the best keep secrets. Spiegel Online wrote: stylistically confident border crosser between Jazzpop, Funk and Electro.
