"Classical Guitar Society of Upstate NY, March 18, 2006"

William Simcoe and Elisabeth Williams played a beautiful and inspired duet of guitar and flute. They opened with Bach's BWV 1003, moved to Italian composer Roberto Di Marino and kept going with music of latin american composers. Elisabeth and Bill were very inspired that night! - Eugenio Reis

"7th Annual Oneonta Fall Guitar Festival"

We took a 1 hour lunch break and when we returned, one of the truly magnificent artists in the Upstate New York Area, my dear buddy William Simcoe in duo mode with Elisabeth Williams on flute, played an exceptionally beautiful program of Latin American and Spanish compositions. William Simcoe is an exceptionally brilliant artist and I look forward to each and every time I can get to hear him because he is one of the finest examples of what an artist truly is! Anyone he works with is also an exceptional artist and whether playing solo or accompaniment, this man is an expert and music is so well and beautifully executed, you can lay back and rest assured of perfection. There is a glow in the eyes and smile of William Simcoe that tells you this man's each and every corpuscle contains "M U S I C". I love you BILL and hope that you continue to give us at least another 30 years of great performances! Oh! I forgot to mention that his duo with Elisabeth Williams is called "Spiral Tango" and I also forgot to mention that Elisabeth Williams is an exceptionally gifted artist in her own right and played like an angel! Beautiful tone and superior musicianship! What a team!!!

Bio

The duo Spiral Tango, William Simcoe (guitar) and Elisabeth Williams (flute) met at a tango dance in Albany, New York. William had come as a pilgrim, to play tangos on the guitar and be inspired by the dancers. Elisbeth was among the tango dancers, but she was also drawn to tango as a musician. They decided to try some tango music for guitar and flute. Encouraged by their tango dancing friends and by the joy of music making they began to perform together for tango events and in a variety of venues and ensembles. In 2005 they decided to record together, and the result was the CD "Mis Suenos de Tango", released in April 2006. Spiral Tango has been greatly inspired by their artist friend, Argentine composer Jose Luis Merlin; they play many of his works for solo guitar and for guitar/flute duo. They also play works by contemporary composers Diego Collatti and Roberto Di Marino and their own arrangements of tango classics, including works by Astor Piazzolla, Carlos Gardel and Abel Fleury. In 2008 Spiral Tango performed at Caffe Lena in Saratoga Springs, for Tango Night at the Saratoga Performing Arts Center, for the Oneonta Guitar Festival , and for the Classical Guitar Academy of Milan, Italy.
