Spiryt is a name given by a friend in the music business based on natural character and the essence of her lyrics. Spirit by definition is -the immaterial intelligent or sentient part of a person. Pronunciation: 'spir-it

Born Ardrina Porter on March 10th, 1981 Spiryt is one of hip-hops newest visionaries; whose poetic charisma and style stands to take hip-hop to new and exciting levels. Raised in the city of Rochester, New York, Spiryt grew up in one of the city’s worse projects called Fight Village. Rochester is a small town, but has always had a reputation for high crime, drugs, and gangs. Living in the inner-city it is normal to see drug attics smoking outside on the streets, drug dealers on every corner, and people robbing and killing every day. Spiryt is one of the few youth that was able to see pass her environment to move forward to have a healthy and prosperous life.

Rochester also called for a great number of “real” starving artist and lyricists. Spiryt grew up in era of hip hop where everyone wanted to ‘rock the mic’ to express what they were seeing, hearing, and feeling. This was a time when Spiryt mostly listened and admired the true hip hop art, not knowing that she would one day become one herself. Influenced by her older brother, Spiryt started rapping at the age of 10. Spiryt has a passion for music and a divine ability to entertain. Spiryts’ other love is basketball, which she was known for in the streets and recreational parks of Rochester. She likes to have fun and often says, “Laughter is the ability to see yourself and the world honestly, same way Kool-Aid is no good without sugar …a person is no good without laughter”. Spiryt has a Bachelors degree in Accounting from North Carolina Central University. Spiryts’ ultimate goal is to become a professor after fulfilling her mission through music.

It was in North Carolina where Spiryt was exposed to more opportunities for rapping and networking with other artist and producers. Spiryt decided to take her ambition to the next level; she began writing and recording songs in the studio. She has songs of substance that will appeal to the ‘miseducated’ youth of today along with the invigorating hip hop and R&B mixes that you can dance to at a night club. Spiryt is destine to become one of hip hop’s most influential and inspiring artist. Spiryt will captivate your ear and put you into a zone with her hard hitting beats and urbane lyrics.

Spiryts’ lyrics express her passion and consciousness in life. She is very versatile in writing her lyrics and she always says,”I am an ‘out of the box’ artist, and I don’t want to be labeled.” She loves music for its true art form and not one particular type of music stand out over the rest. Inspired by artist such as Steve Wonder, Karen Clark Sheard, MC Lyte, Lauryn Hill, Mary J. Blige, TLC, Mos Def, and Tribe Call Quest, she finds a unique beauty in each one of them.
