Splendid delivers a new definition of reggae: Rocksteady Sunshine. Relaxing rhythms, sunny horns and critical lyrics guarantee a summer sound. The Hague’s 10-piece band brings a mix of catchy uptempo reggae mixed with soul, rock and hip-hop influences. Over the years, Splendid has built up an outstanding live reputation and a massive support in the Dutch surf and extreme sports scene.

A lot of people in one band brings a huge list of influences, ranging from Sublime to Michael Franti, from Fela Kuti, Bob Marley, Sergent Garcia to Jack Johnson. Fresh summer love.

On June 18, 2009, Splendid celebrated the release of the third album "Life Is Splendid" in a sold out Paard van Troje. A unique event for a band that has done everything on their own so far. The spectacular performance was complemented by features of Spike (Direct/The Deaf), upcoming female rockers Rebelle and California Latin hero Santos de Los Angeles. This third album shows an even more mature and diverse sound. ‘Life Is Splendid’ received many positive feedback in the national media, resulting in massive airplay of the first single 'Higher Ground' on all national radio stations, including several prime-time live radio performances.

Splendid has been active in the Dutch reggae scene since 2001. In 2004 the band released the self-titled debut album 'Splendid'. In the spring of 2005 Splendid launched the special national anthem ‘Wilhelmus’ reggae version, in honor of the 25th anniversary of Queen Beatrix. Over 7000 fans came to see the band perform live at the ‘the Hague Queen’s Night’. This resulted in the band receiving the award for the Hague’s Best Live Act 2005.

The second album 'Rebirth', released on Ascension Day in 2006, was presented in a sold-out hall of the Paard van Troje. Supplemented with some great guest appearances and with a dazzling live show, the release party turned out to be an unforgettable evening. The band received rave reviews, the Hague award for Best Album and Best Album 2006 South Holland.

Inspired to record new material for their third studio album, the men retreated to a secluded mansion in Rijswijk to record the new album. The new album has been produced and mixed in the band’s new high-end studio, resulting in a steamy mix of rocksteady ska and reggae, complemented with latin, funk and rock.

Splendid is receiving increasing attention from abroad. Thus far, the band played on several occasions in France at different surfing championships. In January 2009 the band did a spectacular show at the Dutch Snowboarding Championships in Laax, Switzerland. Finally, during the Summer of 2009, the track "Senorina Luna", a collaboration with Santos de Los Angeles, was released in the U.S. on his new album.

Now in 2011, the band has released their 4th studio album, "Connect back tot the stars", this time bigger better and fresher than ever before, the first release on the critically acclaimed PIAS label and backed up by producer Robin Veldman and the Rebelle backing vocals.
Following the release, the band had a hectic summer packed with festivals, radio shows and interviews. In anticipation of SXSW, the band will depart on a clubtour all across the Netherlands, starting mid november until late January. In the meantime Splendid received the award for best recording ("Connect back to the stars") and best clip ("Again").
