Bio

S. Poitier has been described as the “Al Green of the 21st Century.” Not only is he an eloquent pastor, but an excellent musician and singer as well. His new R&B album, Life & Love, is a musical demonstration of the different phases that accompany love----infatuation, affection, passion, physical attraction, heartbreak and moving on. It also encourages the listener to recognize the goodness around you and enjoy life.

Many are surprised to learn that a man who has been preaching for more than 20 years would suddenly decide to make his mark in the world of secular music. However, none can deny his stellar vocal, instrumental, and songwriting ability. Although labeled as R&B, within the 11 tracks on the “Life & Love” album you will also find a delightfully eclectic blend of jazz, neo-soul, and inspirational music. S. Poitier’s songs beckon the listener to love, dance, breathe, appreciate beauty, and heal---all things he refers to as embracing life.

Named after one of the most prolific actors of our time, Sidney Poitier, S. Poitier seeks to do something prolific with his debut album---relate to men and women from all walks of life without compromising his faith. He believes that his role as a pastor does not limit his ability to make music that anyone can enjoy. It actually removes all boundaries.

“I am a Pastor but I am also a man who experiences life. So often the church is religious but we’re not relating to one another. We are all people who are experiencing life. The scripture teaches us that Jesus wants us to have life and have it more abundantly. I want this CD to speak to the different areas of our lives. It speaks to the kingdom and the totality of life. And life is more than just the church,” says Poitier. “I do not have raunchy songs on my album. There is so much we can experience without being graphic or specific. I leave the details up to the imagination and creativity of those who enjoy it. My purpose is to bring people to a place that embraces joy, love, passion, and romanticism. They embrace life.”

A native of Memphis, TN S. Poitier was raised in a humble home that was filled with love for family, love for music and a love of God. It was actually in church he discovered that he was a gifted pianist, and was selected to play for the church youth choir at the age of six. His gift was eventually noticed by those in the recording industry and S. Poitier was asked to play for local and national artists such as Darryl Coley, John P. Key, Vanessa Bell Armstrong, Commission, Yellow Jackets, Take 6, Foreplay, Najee and many more.

Now, S. Poitier’s musical talent has brought him to a place that demands he step from the background and into the limelight. But this man of God is quite adamant that his ministry comes first. Each Sunday you will find Pastor Sidney Poitier Malone singing and preaching for the Lord at his church, New Growth In Christ Christian Center in Memphis, TN.
