Bio

Spokes formed as a five-piece in July 2006 and began writing extended rock songs, interspersed with drones and noise. Combining loop pedals, a laptop and violin they sought to set themselves apart by building mainly instrumental songs with a sense of urgency. From moments of quiet intimacy to intense uplifting climaxes, the group sound is allowed to build almost to the point of falling apart.

‘Godspeed moments and progressive, soaring melodies, awesomely combined’.

While studying for their degrees, the band manages to find time to travel across the country to rehearse, and promote themselves. This has led to gigs with Chikinki, Protokol, Blackbud, Unkle Bob, Ocean Fracture, Oceansize, Jeniferever, bands on the MotiveSounds label, and an HMV showcase in Leeds to name a few. In August 2006, having been together barely two months, Spokes recorded their first and self-titled demo in the beautifully isolated Welsh countryside. Having shown their intended direction in the first recording Spokes, over the following months, concentrated on writing/rehearsing new material, developing their set and sound into what it is now; screaming highs and comforting, gentle lows that transports the listener, music that moves and challenges the emotions.

Now clear and confident with their sound and set Spokes returned to Foel Studios in early March this year and documented their progress in recording their debut album 'Peope Like People Like You'.
