"Bluegrass,hip-hop blend in Spostah"

Mixing musical genres can be a dangerous game. Ask Luke Austin S. of the band Spostah, hailing from the Flathead Valley, Montana.
"If you type in hip-hop and bluegrass on Myspace, you get some pretty terrible stuff," Austin said. After three years of working through the kinks, switching out a few musicians and developing over 40 original songs, Spostah is ready to share their hybrid sound with the northwest. they perform at 5 p.m. today at the Huckleberry Heritage Festival in Wallace and at 7 p.m. saturday at O'Shays in Coeur d' Alene. Spostah began when 23 year old acoustic guitarist Shamp, billed onstage as Luke Austin S., joined forces with rapper Olav Snell. "He always had the desire to do hardcore rap, but i was always pulling him into acoustic music," Austin said. The mash up led to a strangely cohesive mix of bluegrass, rock, folk, instrumental, and hip hop. "We've formed ou own little genre," Austin said. "People at our shows have said that they feel like they've heard five bands." Austin hopes the combination won't be immediately dismissed as somthing "awkward." "On the radio you have the hip-hop station, and you have the bluegrass station," he said. "It's a shame it's so segregated. I'm really passionate about seeing different genres coming together." Now comprised of Austin, Snell,Chris Coen on bass and Shane Stendell on drums, Spostah is getting serious. In addition to more regional touring, the band is finally recording a studio album. "Somtimes you feel like you're swimming up river," Austin said. "People at shows are stoked about getting an album and they can't buy one yet." There's also the task of recording just a few songs from their expansive set list. "I have the infection, and I can't quit writing songs," Austin said. " I feel like God is giving me new songs everyday." Sample the standout track "Run Jump Sing" at www.myspace.som/spostah. O'Shays Irish Pub and Eatery is located a 313 E. Coeur d' Alene Lake Drive in Coeur d' Alene. The Wallace Huckleberry Festival takes place today and Saturday and features live music, arts and craft vendors and family activities.

"Thoughts From A Listener"

—–Live Review—–
When walking down Main Street in Kalispell Montana….One would quickly find themselves
groovin’down the sidewalk right into Colter Coffee Shop to hear the mouthwatering melodies of Spostah, a blend of soul stirring musicians who’s songs will leave you thirsty
for more. These 4 guys are the definition of connecting family with the hard work involved
in a band, which is why they are a band of brothers…..each with a part to create this perfect harmony. They are;
-Luke A. Voice and Strings
-Olav S. Voice
-Shane S. Wood and Skins
-Chris C. Thick Strings
“If I was spostah describe in detail what these guys sound like, I would say……”it sounds lik e a heap of George Clinton groovin’ funkadelic, add a bit of Bela Fleck stomping bluegrass, a dash of Ben Harper’s smooth slide, a pinch of Rage Against the Machine hiphop and a whole lot of faith...and you get a tastefully quenching musical experience, that you’re all Spostah hear.”

Bio

2010 finds Spostah alive, well, and continually tweaking and crafting it’s stage performance. They’re passionate about turning music into soulful live entertainment. With a strong set list of 40 or more original songs and instrumentals to pull from, Spostah is ready to launch!
In an industry that so often can’t see the forest for the trees. We say that there is still a reason to believe that music can be made from the heart. With a style ranging from acoustic hip hop to an eclectic blend of country, reggae, rock and alternative. All ages, shapes, sizes, and creeds have come together to love this music.
For Luke, Olav, Chris and Shane their journey has always been and always will be about the people and the music.
Fusing this commitment with the drive and ability to
create emotion using different styles, sounds, and textures of music is for Spostah, like a child in a sand-box.
The only limit is the imagination.
