Spread Thin

Spread Thin

BandAlternativeRock

Spread Thin is an alternative rock band that blends technical instrumental work with accessible song structures, lyrics, and vocals to make radio friendly but musically sophisticated modern rock music.

Biography

Spread Thin started as an acoustic act playing dorms and coffee shops. Now, they are an alternative rock band testing the waters of major venues and having a good deal of success. Spread Thin began when Dan Mahoney sought out three musicians to form a band at the University of Scranton. Brad LaPore from Baltimore, MD played co-lead guitar and sang background vocals. Nate Ohlinger from Reading, PA played bass. Amir Karimian, also from Baltimore, played bongos.
When two acoustic guitars, a bass, and bongos didn't do justice to the songs, Spread Thin beefed up to electric instruments, then added keyboardist Dana Boyer from McAdoo, PA, and later opted for a heavier drum sound by enlisting Joe Kavitski from Hazelton, PA, when Amir left to focus on a career in medicine. After playing together for over two years, four members of Spread Thin left Mahoney on good terms to form a new band focusing on a different genre.
No break is painless, but the timing could not have been better. Mahoney was fortunate enough to know a group of musicians from his home town of Washington, NJ who loved Spread Thin and were looking for a singer for their band. Without hesitation, four new musicians joined Spread Thin to form the current lineup.
Dan Mahoney – lead vocals and rhythm guitar
Bill Black - lead guitar (myspace.com/billblackrock)
Jordan Utt – Keyboards, vocals, and rhythm guitar
Greg Smith - Bass and vocals
Jonny Utt - drums
With a professional quality EP recorded by their former keyboardist, hook riddled songs, strong musicianship, clear and powerful vocals, and a take-all attitude; they intend to keep building momentum.
The vision: Blend musical technicality with rock and pop accessibility and do not ever settle for cliché.

Eleven X

Written By: Daniel Mahoney

Lyrics for "Eleven X"
It's been a couple of months and I thought it'd get easier
But easy ain't my style
Bought into the lie about time healing all these wounds
So I'm cutting you out and no doubt you'll find a way
To make me look like a bad guy
Sorry to say that things don't always go my way

In this constant loneliness, we are left with Images and Words
Haunting memories of happiness
Driving me from the real world

Who would have thought it would be so hard
To put the pieces back together
I wish I knew how I'd fall apart
Before I promised you forever

I think it's a sign how you lie that we're fine when we're trying
To tear eachothers' hearts out
Don't think that I can't feel the knife that's in my back.
I try to move on but you're there and you scare away
The people whom I care for
Sorry to say that things don't always go my way

In this constant loneliness we are left with Images and Words
Hauntin memories of happiness
Dividing me from the real world

Who would have thought it would be so hard
To put the pieces back together
I wishi I knew how I'd fall apart
Before I promised you forever
Even as I push you away I can tell that you feel like you're
So so so clever
You got exactly what you wanted

(guitar solo: Brad LaPore)

Who would have thought it would be so hard
To put the pieces back together
I wish I knew how I'd fall apart
Before I promised you forever
Even as I push you away I can tell that you feel like you're
Super fucking clever
You got exactly what you wanted
Now leave me alone.

Sorrowful

Written By: Daniel Mahoney

You had a few too many Percosets
You shouldn't have pretended that
Your life was anything like your dreams
And I don't want to take a stab
At dealing with the problems that
Counseling you will bring (Counseling you will bring)

These psych ward nights
Your "suicides"
When will you decide
To close your mind and throw it all away
Sorrowful
You let me down
You let me down just like so many times before

And all your fabricated suffering
Is gonna take a toll on me
I will not stand around and let you
Let you drag me down
I can't console you so convinced
And I can't heal your broken trusts
I do not want to seem cold
But it seems so obvious

These psych ward nights
Your "suicides"
When will you decide
To close your mind and throw it all away
Sorrowful
You let me down
You let me down
Just like so many times before

And I cannot accept this
The burden of your pain
I haven't got the patience
For what you've got to say
And when will you acknowledge
That you're the one to blame
I refuse to let you use me
I won't be your escape

These psych ward nights
Your "suicides"
When will you decide
To close your mind and throw it all away
Sorrowful
You let me down
You let me down just like so many times before
These psych ward nights
Your "suicides"
When will you decide
To close your mind and throw it all away
Sorrowful
You let me down
You let me down again

Safe in the End

Written By: Brad LaPore and Dan Mahoney

From the 15th floor I fall it seems
As the ground gets closer the lies pass before me
The lies of those who crush our lives and kill our dreams mean more than they should ever mean.

I've tried to be
More than I could ever be
But you won't accept me
For who I really am

Inconsequencially superficial
For nothing more than your pain

Please don't save me
Please just forget me
Just let me fall away from you
So I can just be me

So pardon me if I won't subscribe
To the way of living that you live by
Don't try to save me just save your breath
Your expectations weigh heavy on my mind

I've tried to be
More than I could ever be
But you won't accept me
For who I really am

Inconsequencially superficial
Trying to live up to your name

Please don't save me
Please just forget me
Just let me fall away from you
So I can just be me
