"(record review - Cle P.D.)"

"...reminiscent of the Kinks here, the Pixies here...Sputnik's promising debut packs ten Grandy-penned indie-rock ditties with catchy hooks and shimmering harmonies aplenty. Best of the bunch? 'Alienne", an extraterrestrial ode to 'the flying object of my desire. (grade) A minus' - Cleveland Plain Dealer 1/11/04

"(record review - Graffiti)"

This Cleveland-based indie group has one of the more intriguing sounds I’ve heard as of late. (...) imbued with strong melodies and a British flavor thanks to singer Alan Grandy (...) songs like the driving “Luvbuzz,” “Elisabeth” and the gentle “Alienne” recall the grand, tuneful and harmony-filled pop of NC’s Connells while the simmering, modal “Obsession” and “Untitled” (with a nice “Paint It Black” riff) are reminiscent of the Feelies classic LP “The Good Earth” and “New Boots” and “Manchild” will bring to mind R.E.M. I’d keep an ear out for these lads. - graffiti/charleston (WV) daily mail 12/04

I, Cosmonaut CD (11 songs) - 2004
WRUW-FM Top Ten Jan. 2004
(#1 - week of Jan. 19)

Feeling a bit camera shy

Sputnik began performing together during the recording of Grandy's 1997 solo release "acrowno'stars" (which received critical acclaim from Alternative Press and Seattle Weekly, among others).

The song "Alienne" from "I, Cosmonaut" was featured on the FOX Network series Wonderfalls.

The song "Hello" from "I, Cosmonaut" is featured on the MAGNET Magazine best-of-2004 (Jan./Feb.) issue CD sampler. It was also featured on Paste Magazine's February/March issue CD sampler.

The group is currently recording it's follow-up to I, Cosmonaut, with recent addition Chris Solt on drums and backing vocal.
