Bio
Formed in Rome in 2004, Squartet propose three-parts short compositions for guitar, bass and drums, where the lesson of Rock is read anew in the light of those subgeneres that broke in the last thirty years. Art punk, New (and No) Wave, Punk Jazz have been digested and mixed with contemporary music to bear an original sound, one that can finally overcome the idea of experimental music, to redefine the concept of catchy, danceable, eventually enjoyable.
In May 2005 Squartet release the first album, self titled, produced by the musicians collective Jazzcore Incorporated. The record, composed by the band in one go during the first month of activity, is well reviewed by specialized magazines. For instance, it receives a nomination for the prize Fuori dal Mucchio (out of the bunch) announced by the magazine Il Mucchio Selvaggio (The Wild Bunch), namely for having re-interpreted the song-form, messed with styles and finally distorted its features.
Since then the band set off an intense touring activity, playing around 200 concerts in more than 10 countries, building a strong network of friends and artists, getting to know the avant-garde scene and DIY movement that propells creative music all around Europe.
Uwaga! is the second release, dated 2008, distributed in the US by WaysideMusic (connected to the renown label Cuneiform Records), in Europe by Mandai and by Goodfellas in Italy. The album results from four years of practice, composition and touring, highlighting the rock attitude of the band and striving for both melody and complexity. It has been recorded at Locomotore studio in Rome and mastered by Maurizio Giannotti at Newmastering (Milan), while the artwork has been curated by Fuz & Gorcin Zec (Atelier Quartopiano, Paris).
The band is currently working on a new record, to be released within 2014.
The upcoming album moves further in the direction of emphasizing the strictly personal nature of the musical experience, by interleaving multiple melodic and rhytmic layers that drive the listener to highly subjective listening paths.
Squartet are:
