"Squash Blossoms play Music On The Square"

Music on the Square will offer an evening of Western, cowgirl music with The Buckerettes and The Squash Blossoms Friday night, May 8, at 7 in historic downtown Jonesborough.
The sassy cowgirls of The Buckerettes are Robin Cape, standup bass and vocals; Deb Criss, guitar, harmonica and vocals; and Roberta Greenspan, fiddle and vocals. This Asheville, N.C., trio has been entertaining listeners and dancers throughout the region. But don’t let their name and honky-tonking, foot-stomping vibe fool you. Sultry harmonies and lilting instrumentation characterize The Buckerettes’ sound, infused with the strong traditionalism of the Blue Ridge Mountains they call home.

Along with strong instrumentation, the Buckerettes offer their harmonies with dexterity and grace. In a live setting, they’ve been known to drop their instruments entirely and offer up inspiring a capella compositions.

Their music is rooted in a traditional American music, a deep love of this world, its mysteries and the inspirations found in trying to walk a clear, positive and fun-loving path.

The Squash Blossoms are Ashlee Dillon, vocals; Niki Giles, vocals and drum; and Sarah Saunders, vocals and guitar. The Friday, May 8, show will be the second anniversary of the band, which plays a mix of covers and originals in the acoustic Americana genre.

They have played the Blue Plum and Rhythm and Roots and benefits. - Johnson City Press

Bio

“You don’t know what you’ve been missing…” to borrow a line from one of the Squash Blossom’s original songs, if you haven’t heard phenomenal three-part harmonies of this talented trio, you surely don’t know what you’ve been missing.
The Squash Blossoms are: Ashlee Dillon, Niki Giles and Sarah Saunders, hailing from Johnson City, TN. Their just released cd “Around the Blend” contains ten original songs; each of which were a collaborative effort of the band members. The Squash Blossoms take the only cover, Old Crow Medicine Show’s “Wagon Wheel” and make it their own.
The trio began playing together just over three years ago and since then have developed a dedicated following around Johnson City. They have opened for internationally know singer/songwriter Kimmie Rhodes and played area festivals such as Rhythm and Roots, Blue Plum and Music on the Square. They can frequently be heard at many of Johnson City’s hot spots including Halo, Down Home and Boonedocks.
On the cd, John Gardner joins the Squash Blossoms, adding his unique percussion to the girls’ harmonious sound. John is a seasoned veteran of the music business, having been a session musician in Nashville for as he says “forever”. John’s son, Avery Gardner (also a session musician) lays down the bass to complete the sound. The cd was produced and engineered at John’s studio, Johnny Geez located in Johnson City, TN on Notcho Face records. For booking information, contact:
