Bio

Squirrel Queen (known by her parents as Lydia Kolda) is a songwriter and performer from Austin, Texas. Her country folk influenced songs are filled with poetry and honesty about her still young life.

Growing up in Austin, she was deeply influenced by the live music culture of the city, often finding herself in a vast sea of music fans at SXSW and ACL Music Festival. Through the years, she joined a plethora of bands with dumb names such as: Sharks With Freaking Lasers on their Heads, Tony Coyote and the Pack, Lydia Kolda and Work for Hire, Frolicking in the Median, and a Valentine’s themed band named The Sour Smoochie Lips. But when she moved to New Orleans in 2012, she began anew as Squirrel Queen, and in 2014 she self-released her debut album titled “Squirrel Queen.” The album, which was recorded by Randy Rivero over the course of a year in the Vital Sounds studio at Loyola University New Orleans, features the ambient sound of Chance Briant’s guitar, and Michelle Madias’ soulful voice.

She now attends college at Loyola University and contemplates her future music endeavors, which include writing all her troubles and triumphs into songs, singing to barflies, and scribbling in little notebooks.
