ALBUM REVIEW
Scott Singer.... You Dream

You Dream is a debut release of 11 original songs by singer/songwriter Scott Singer…. This is homegrown stuff all the way through as backing musicians are either Columbusite’s or Atlantan’s such as Shawn Mullins and Matthew Kahler who are regulars on the Columbus scene. …There must be something to the technique because the result is a very enjoyable acoustic -rock album.

This is music that is EASY to listen to. Singer’s subtle style, intelligent lyrics result in songs most of us can relate to in our lives. Singer is willing to put himself out there with solo’s as the heartfelt Lisa’s Song “I must have written a thousand love songs, I wrote them all for you.” To the Woody Guthrie style, I Am America “I am the man on the midnight shift in the parking lot looking after the cars when the keys are locked, I Am America…I am the pain in your neck after work and it’s only Monday and the weekend looks so far away, I Am America.”

The rest of the set is acoustic rockers. You know, easy going foot tappers that won’t destroy any brain cells while your heads bobbin’ to the music. My personal favorite is the bluesy/rocker of the CD Broken Hearts Don’t Beat.

Singer does vocals, guitar, drums and organ with accompaniment by Aram Doroff on bass, and Britt Wilson on lead guitar. All I can say about this is these guys need to get together more often.

Another album is in the works hopefully to be released after this summer. I missed the CD release party for YOU DREAM, my mistake. I’ll be there for the next one though. In the meantime, I’ll watch for Scott’s local appearances, enjoy it live, and listen to previews of what’s to come.

ALBUM REVIEW
Scott Singer.... Scatter

"Scatter," a 10-song CD and band, is a joint project between Scott Singer and the members of Flying Blind.

The vocals are crisp and clean throughout; ...Scott's songs are personal slices of life, not narratives with a beginning and end. The feeling is the important thing here.

The opening track, "Running Blind," is an upbeat cut that taps into a feeling common to folks trying to make it... "Feel like I'm running / out of touch and out of time...no direction of any kind,". Contrast this expression of hopelessness against "Solitary Man," where Singer states that "all it takes is just one voice / you can keep yours down, but it's your choice / I'll be fighting for the day / to put Solitary Man away."

My favorite is "Kissed Me In The Hall," a remembrance of a long lost love. "I wonder what you're doing now, I miss it all / when you kissed me in the hall." A great hook in the chorus and changes in tempo for the verses make this the most memorable song on the CD. This one reminds me of a late-summer song on AM radio, slipping out of a car that pulls up next to you at the beach.

Other standout tracks are "Behind the Veil," a tale of spousal abuse and "YourTears Are Lost." There's a good balance here between uptempo numbers and ballads, no real surprises, just solid playing an songwriting. I haven't heard these songs performed live, but I'm looking forward to it. Their CD release party is scheduled for May 3rd at The Loft.

Bio

Scott Singer is a prolific songwriter from Georgia who has shared the stage with musicians such as Shawn Mullins, Jennifer Nettles, Kristian Bush, Michelle Malone and REO Speedwagon.  Vince Gill showed great interest in several of Scott’s songs during a performance and Shawn Mullins contributes to the song Two Hands Tied on Scott's You Dream album.

Scott Singer's brand of music is full of unique life experience, love-sick kids and sketchy characters.  He crafts memorable stories in a skillful balance of lyric and melody.

Scott helps military veterans through songwriting.  He works with Operation Song, a non-profit organization out of Nashville pairing military vets with songwriters. This incredible process encourages soldiers and their families to tell their story through song.

This songwriting experience promotes healing and results in moving, emotional songs that our vets carry with them for years to come.

Scott writes, sings and performs with his band or as a solo act working clubs and festivals in the US.  Scott recently won the grand prize for a song entitled Reno during the Columbus Songwriters Guild song contest.

Scott Singer, a performer you’ll want to see and one you’ll remember long after the experience.
