Every once in a while you find a musician or band that you really connect with… I found that in Noah Tabakin, aka Ssssnake. ...(we) welcomed him back on Saturday evening with such enthusiasm as his performance painted a permanent smile on everyone’s face. Between pulling people up on stage and jumping out into the crowd with minimal clothing creating a human train, his animated and over-the-top performance was also easy on the ears. He’s incredibly talented, not only in keeping his audience’s rapt attention, but his voice is alluring, his beats are catchy, and most of the lyrics are actually pretty profound. Serpents have long been held as alluring beasts, slithering stand-ins for charm and sexual energy. That tradition continues with ssssnake, the brainchild of local musician and singer Noah Tabakin. He of the perpetually raised eyebrow is a fixture on the scene as a regular in circus-punk marching band Mucca Pazza and kinda-indie/kinda-Fishbone group Dead Rider(previously D. Rider).
Tabakin's busting out ssssnake's inaugural album, Hostile Takeover ...the album is a hostile takeover alright -- of your pants. Seriously, soulful funk-hop tracks like "Sheet Music" and "Wolf and the Bear" are made for booty shaking and/or boot knocking. With his penchant for shedding down to his skivvies, it's easy to think of Tabakin as Chicago's very own Har Mar Superstar. - Gapers Block

ssssnake is a hip hop-, funk- and gospel-inflected soul project with a wild, joyous vibe. Always switching between a cold, venomous snake into a beautiful, passionate swan. Celebrate it all.
Noah Tabakin is the man behind ssssnake. Tabakin produces all the music with added live instrumentation from his super talented musical colleagues. He produces all the acts with live interactive choreography from his wildly artistic dancers. If you're in the crowd you run the risk of being pulled on stage and into the jubilation. The audience assists ssssnake with lighting his journeys into the crowd with their cell phones, doing synchronized, slow motion dance routines and allowing him to give them a sweaty snuggle while serenading the chosen few.
Tabakin has been singing and making music for over two decades. His considerable tour of duty includes fronting three bands: soul and R&B group All Fours; live hip-hop band Tabakin, and soul-funk group Little Blue Crunchy Things, with whom he performed for ten years, selling over 14,000 records. He was a founding member of the Chicago art rock group Dead Rider (Drag City), and the legendary nerd core circus punk marching band Mucca Pazza.
In Tabakin's long career he has performed on the Conan O’Brien Show, Lollapalooza, opened for Dan Deacon, The Roots, Primus,The Parliment/Funkadelic All Stars, Bernie Worell and the Woo Warriors, The Violent Fems, Cody Chessnut, Urban Dance Squad and the one and only SMASH MOUTH!
