I am a songwriter and vocalist in the genre of pop/rock music, with a strong ear for melody/ harmony. I create relatable, emotional lyrics AND musical hooks that are catchy and memorable !

Biography

A trained pianist and vocalist, Stacey Dexter has been writing and recording her own music and honing her skills as a very connected, emotional, and energetic lead singer for many years. Dexter’s lyrics reflect her ability to emotionally relate to an audience and her strong sense of melody makes the songs catchy and memorable.
She has strong musical ties in the Boston area. In the past, Dexter successfully launched her original music onto college radio and the former WBNC in Boston.

Her most recent record “Sometimes Love” was co-written with producer/drummer Hirsh Gardner, formerly of the highly successful band “New England”, with a special appearance by
guitar virtuoso, Johnny A.
“Sometimes Love” triumphantly received an Honorable Mention in 2009 in the Billboard Songwriting contest, proving that Dexter is a viable contender in today’s music market.

She now returns to the music industry with a catalogue of original lyrics that are believable, intelligent and relatable. Dexter frequently collaborates with others, adding her lyrics and vocal melodies to others’ instrumentation.
Dexter is actively searching for licensing opportunities in film, television and commercials.
She is also ready to pitch her material to other artists to help them to achieve the connection to their audience that they are looking for in a song.

Sometimes Love

Written By: Stacey Dexter/Hirsh Gardner

“Sometimes Love”…..

Lyrics By Stacey Dexter, 2009 ©

(V1)
She never thought she’d feel this way, she trusted him it’s not ok
His angry words a weight on her chest
He’s kept her in his prison, suffocating her from living
It’s always him, this complicated mess

(Interlude 1)
Tears her heart off of her sleeve
Throws it bleeding in the weeds…(yeah, yeah, yeah)

©
Sometimes love is suffocating
She must go she can’t keep waiting
Sometimes love can be heartbreaking
Take a breath your soul is waiting
Sometimes love needs room to fly
Free your heart with one goodbye

(V2)
She wrapped her heart in pieces as she carefully retreated
He’s pushed her to this terrible choice
She’s trembling with sadness, feels defeated and deleted
She feels let down in ways she can’t voice

(I-2)
Loneliness it makes her bleed
From now on, she’ll take the lead (yeah, yeah, yeah)

(C)

(Bridge)
She runs all night into the Black
And there’s pain in her neck from looking back
And she stops, to breathe…
Her suitcase heavy with her dreams
He was never really what he seemed
And she stops, to breathe
It took so long to leave…to leave…to leave

(Instrumental/Lead)

(Abbr. C)
Sometimes love is suffocating…
Sometimes love can be heartbreaking…
Sometimes love needs room to fly…
Free yourself with one goodbye…

(Chorus)
Sometimes love is suffocating
She must go she can’t keep waiting
Sometimes love can be heartbreaking
Take a breath your soul is waiting
Sometimes love needs room to fly
Free yourself with one goodbye

And don’t look back (sometimes love is suffocating)
And don’t look back (sometimes love can be heartbreaking)
And don’t look back (don’t look back, baby don’t look back)
You can free yourself with one goodbye….’cause
Sometimes Love…..

No "Good" Goodbye

Written By: Stacey Dexter/Douglass Brown

No "Good" Goodbye
Lyrics by Stacey Dexter, Nov. 2009

(V1)
She's sittin' on the floor of her old place
And thinkin' 'bout their very last embrace
The loneliness it sneaks up behind her
She thinks again that this is a mistake

(V2)
He looked her in the eye and gave her reasons
She had a list of reasons of her own
There weren't many things that they agreed on
But no where on that list said "stay on home"

(Abbrv. Chorus)
So this "good" goodbye has never felt so bad
Suppose to set you free inside, even make you glad...

(V3)
It took three years to finally let him go
This love she felt left bruises on her soul
She turned around and like he was a ghost
He seemed to her, her last romantic hope

(Chorus)
So this "good" goodbye has never felt so bad
Suppose to set you free inside, even make you glad
But they held on tight to that last goodbye
Because there's nothin' feelin' "good"
Nothin' feelin' "good" about goodbye

(Bridge)
How could she ever get into this mess?
Her intentions were good but she settled for less
How could she ever feel better again?
So hard to think about so she lies to herself

(Chorus 2)
So this"good"goodbye (No"good"goodbye) has never felt so bad
Suppose to set you free inside (Doesn't set you free),
even make you glad
But they held on tight (Hold on tight now) to that last goodbye
Because there's nothin' feelin' "good",
Nothin' feelin' "good" about goodbye

Boots

Written By: Stacey Dexter/Douglass Brown

“Boots”
Lyrics by Stacey Dexter
February 2010

(V1)
You and the Truth, don’t make a good couple
I can tell by the way you look in her eyes and try and hold her hand
You and the Truth, it’s easy to see
You’re Trouble and the Truth will set me free

(C)
(I’m gonna) Pull on my boots baby, strap on my wings and fly along
It’s gonna be a fun ride from now on
Pull on my boots baby
Prove to myself that I am strong
(Pull on my boots baby, x2)

(V2)
You say the Truth is better left unsaid
You’d rather put Her underground, away from light, away from sound
Swallow the Truth, that way there’s no proof
And Trouble’s an old friend that hangs around

(B)
Liar liar, pants on fire
And here I thought it was Desire
Liar liar, Deceit for hire
Can’t you see I’m done with you?

(C)
(I’m gonna) pull on my boots baby, strap on my wings and fly along
It’s gonna be a fun ride from now on
Pull on my boots baby
Prove to myself that I am strong
Dust off your boots and come along…yeah

(Solo)

(Chorus)

(Add’l Chorus)

So baby pull on your boots baby, strap on your wings and fly along
It’s gonna be a fun ride from now on
Pull on your boots baby, prove to yourself that you are strong
(Pull on your boots baby x2 )

(Extra Part)
Look me in the eyes and lie
Break my heart and make me cry
Try and take my boots away
There is no way I will stay

*(The boots that come up to my thigh
Even if it’s in July)*!

Pull on my boots baby (x2)

Full Time Job

Written By: Stacey Dexter/Douglass Brown

“Full Time Job”
Lyrics/Vocals by Stacey Dexter Oct. 2009

(V)
You can have a girl that’s easy
You can have a girl that’s sad
You can have a girl that’s lazy
But that’s just too damn bad

You can have a girl that’s crazy
You can have a girl that’s bad
You can have a girl named Stacey
Sweetest luck you’ve ever had

You can have a girl that loves you and gives you what you want
But better be prepared now baby to give her back a lot

(Chorus)
Taking care of me is a full time job
But the benefits are tight baby oh my God
The resumes are deep, but it’s yours I’ll keep
‘Cause when you take care of me I will take care of you

Taking’ care of me is a full time job
But the benefits are tight baby oh my God
Days and nights and weekends too
There are always endless things to do

(Transition)
Take your time and think it over, you could be the lucky one
Bring your game and best look baby
Take the job it’s yours, it’s done

Chorus
Chorus Transition
Chorus Out

It’s the best damn job you’ll ever have……. J
