"Inspired by the likes of Aretha Franklin to Carol King, Stacey Kaniuk delivers an accessible blend of soul-inflected pop centred upon her riveting RnB-tinged vocals...all the while beaming an uplifting singer-songwriter spirit." - Lonely Vagabond, 2011

Biography

With heartfelt dedication and enduring honesty on her debut full-length CD “Hot Air Balloon”, Stacey Kaniuk is an authentic virtuoso. Inspired by the inherent heartiness and rugged nature of mid-1960s soul, Motown, and R&B's heyday, “Hot Air Balloon” is reminiscent of a time when the music was sincere, bold and proud.

Stacey was recently awarded a FACTOR grant to complete a new EP under the care of producers Adam Messinger (MAGIC!,  Justin Beiber) and Thomas McKay (Joydrop, Michaela May) and has already received radio play for her currently released singles. Her latest single "Heartbeat" conveys all the effervescence of her energetic live show, thanks to the live-off-the-floor approach taken with her powerhouse horn section: William Sperandei on trumpet, William Carn on trombone, and Perry White on saxophone.

Stacey currently holds a weekly residency at the esteemed Reservoir Lounge in Toronto, where she is joined by Alison Young on sax, Eric Boucher on piano, Joel Banks on bass and Shamaka Ali on drums, entertaining crowds singing her upbeat original music as well as new interpretations of beloved soul classics.

With her new record to be released in summer of 2017, there promises to be lots on this horizon for this up-and-coming artist!

Song to Save My Life

Written By: Stacey Kaniuk

Song to Save My Life
words & music by Stacey Kaniuk
Verse 1

Crying in the half-moon light
over what, I can’t decide
Trying to put my finger on it
before I see the morning light
Never been the one to know
what’s wrong until it’s right
Help me understand it
Help me get it right

Pre-Chorus

There’s a darker side of me where the light used to be
And my friends say I don’t look well, Mama says I’m not myself
Look what it’s doing to me

Chorus

I need a song to save my life
I need the words to come right
Because it’s eating me alive
And I’m running out of time

Look what it’s doing to me….

Verse 2
Like an Oldsmobile that’s rusted through
I gave the last of myself to you
What’s left now for me to do?
I’ve got nothing left to offer you

And I may have a dirty, rusted, broke-down heart
but we can celebrate the broken parts
I got a song inside that must get out
Help me get it right

Pre-Chorus

There’s a darker side of me where the light used to be
And my friends say I don’t look well, Mama says I’m not myself
Look what it’s doing to me

Chorus

I need a song to save my life
I need the words to come right
Because it’s eating me alive
And I’m running out of time

Look what it’s doing to me….

Bridge
I got the weight of the world hooked on a melody
I can’t eat and you know I can’t sleep
How did I get here, when will I leave?
How did I get so afraid of just being me?

Chorus

I need a song to save my life
I need the words to come right
Because it’s eating me alive
And I’m running out of time

Look what it’s doing to me….
Look what it’s doing to me….

Ain't Nobody Fallin' In Love

Written By: Stacey Kaniuk

Ain’t Nobody Fallin in Love
Words & Music by Stacey Kaniuk
VERSE 1

Let’s get high when the sun gets low
if you come my way won’t you let me know
See I’ve been checking you for sometime
And I can’t move on ‘til I make you mine
Don’t you worry it ain’t no thing
it’s just a boy-meets-girl-in-the-summertime fling
Don’t think about it, just let your body move

PRE-CHORUS

I’ve been sleeping with one eye open
Prayin’ and hoping you might just walk in
It’s on, then I’m gone, You won’t see my face in the morning
Just come and get it ‘til you think you got it enough

CHORUS

Ain’t nobody fallin in love, love, love
Ain’t nobody fallin in love, love, love

VERSE 2
How do you do that you got something
I can’t figure it out but you make me scream and shout
I’m in a mess and I’m in over my head - boy you just walked in and
and I lose my head
Ooh you know that I’m no good
I’m gonna wear you down like you knew I would
Don’t think about it, just let your body move

PRE-CHORUS

I’ve been sleeping with one eye open
Prayin’ and hoping you might just walk in
It’s on, then I’m gone, You won’t see my face in the morning
just come and get it ‘til you think you got it enough

Bridge

Just put your lips on my lips
No regrets don’t get uptight about it
You got just what I need and I can’t lie
I want to make it hard for you to breathe
I'm trying to get by with just a little lovin' in my life
So come and get it til you think you got it enough

PRE-CHORUS

I’ve been sleeping with one eye open
Prayin’ and hoping you might just walk in
It’s on, then I’m gone, You won’t see my face in the morning
just come and get it ‘til you think you got it enough

CHORUS

Ain’t nobody fallin’ in love, love, love
Ain’t nobody fallin’ in love, love, love

Out Of My Hands

Written By: Stacey Kaniuk

Out of My Hands
words & music by Stacey Kaniuk

Verse 1

I’ve been counting those stars
most every night
And writing them down, babe
Both colour and size
Cuz I never know when one might go
and fall right out the sky
I’m terrified to lose that light
and never say goodbye

Verse 2

I’ve been standing outside
just kicking up leaves
and watching them fall down
and land at my feet

See I like to know where each one goes
before it hits the ground
Got a hold on just about everything that I can

but you’re out of my hands

Chorus

You’re out of my hands, no move to make
ain’t a thing I can do now but wait
and just hope that you see me down on my knees
begging “help me understand”
Want you for my man…

But you’re out of my hands

Verse 3

I’ve keeping my hands
on your side of the bed
Don’t tell me I’m reaching for something
that’s all in my head

How can I prove that I know I’d be good to you
if you won’t let me in?
And baby, I’m not good at losing

You’re out of my hands

Bridge/Outro

Oh maybe I’ve been fooling myself for too long
you can’t tell me I didn’t try
I ain’t the type to go down without a fight
But I’ve given you all that I can
But you’re out of my hands…
