"New Music Addiction - Stacey Kaniuk"

Sometimes the biggest things come in the smallest packages. Canadian songtress Stacey Kaniuk embodies the old adage to a T; and that’s why she’s our latest music addiction.

Cute doesn’t even begin to describe the fiery-haired singer/songwriter. If a kitten ate a rainbow, then was somehow humanely baked into a cupcake and then covered in sprinkles and glitter—that would maybe come close to describing how adorable Stacey Kaniuk is. But the best part? Once you open that adorable, sweet, wrapped in a bow package, the most incredible voice comes out.

Offstage, Kaniuk is sweet and girly and coy. But once the soles of her peep toe pumps hit the stage, she’s a musical powerhouse. Her voice transforms from the girl giggle to a blues vixen in a flash. Christina Aguilera, Carly Rae Jepsen, even Adele can eat their hearts out, because Stacey Kaniuk has a voice that is force to be reckoned with. She also shines so very brightly on stage; dancing, rockin’ out, posing, and smiling that thousand watt smile, this young woman is the real deal.

And while Kaniuk can clearly belt out covers with the best of them, she truly comes to life while singing her original music. Poppy, lively, and most of all fun, Kaniuk is not only a great performer, but a budding songwriter. Take a listen to “Ain’t Nobody Fallin’ In Love” (from her debut album Hot Air Balloon) here.

You can also check out her performance on the Bobcast (a local podcast that’s taking off – keep your eye out). See for yourself, and get addicted. - Addicted Magazine

"STACEY KANIUK - THE SUPERMARKET"

Inspired by the likes of Aretha Franklin to The Beatles, Stacey Kaniuk delivers an accessible blend of catchy soul-inflected pop centered upon her riveting RnB-tinged vocals while beaming an uplifting singer-songwriter spirit. Fronting a five-piece and engaging the audience with a clap-along to “Lie To Myself”, this proud owner of a gold record (as part of a Canadian Christmas compilation) coupled with a show at the Air Canada Centre (with The Blackboard Blues Band) this talented songstress is well on her way. - Lonely Vagabond (part of the Exclaim! network)

"Hello, Police? I'd like to report a stolen show"

The second annual Aurora Jazz+ Festival was held this past Friday night and Saturday. I didn't have a chance to see any of the Friday night performers, but I spent the entire day at the Town Park Saturday listening to the Jazz, Blues, R&B, Pop, Folk, and Rock music line-up the organizers had put together. Along with returning artists like Joel Krivy, Bobby Rice and the Mike Massaro Band, there were a bevy of new performers along for the ride.

The organizers, George and Sher St.Kitts, seem to be dedicated to showcasing as much local talent as possible, and included many amateur, semi-pro, and up and coming York Region performers.

The absolute highlight of the show, for me, was Stacey Kaniuk - a cute-as-a-button local girl with a voice that'll knock your socks off. This girl cannot be far from breaking through into the big time. During a hot enough to set the stage on fire rendition of the James Brown hit It's a Man's Man's Man's World, the performers due up next stood on the alternate stage, arms crossed, watching the rug being pulled out from under them. This is a singer-songwriter on her way to the top, mark my words.

"Stacey Kaniuk Comes Home"

The Newmarket Jazz Festival kicked off on August 1, running through August 4 at Newmarket’s Riverwalk Commons, boasting many amazing artists.

However, one artist stood out amongst the others – Aurora native Stacey Kaniuk.

Kaniuk was raised in Aurora, graduated from Aurora High School in 2002 and has a degree in film studies from Ryerson University, but admits music is her first love.

“I’ve always been singing, I come from a musical family,” she says.

Her performance at the Newmarket Jazz Festival was full of energy as she happily belted out songs such as “Walkin’ on Sunshine” and “Last Night” with a smile on her face and a powerhouse voice.

She was accompanied by a band from Niagara called XPrime who thoroughly enjoyed being with her.

Kaniuk moved around the stage as far as her mic would take her and she jumped to the music in her red spiked shoes, never missing
a beat.

The audience was captivated with the music. Children were dancing as close to the stage as they could and Kaniuk encouraged audience participation. She boldly sang a coveted James Brown song “It’s a Man’s World” and she did it without a hitch, even James Brown would’ve been proud.

Kaniuk is not just about covering others songs, she has written and recorded her own and shared some at the jazz festival, such as “Milk and Honey.”
She has recorded her own album called Hot Air Balloon and played at the Beaches Jazz Festival this summer along with other shows at the Rivoli, located on Queen Street in Toronto.

Kaniuk was gracious and happy to be on stage while she played the piano, sang or introduced the band.
“It’s nice to come home, ” she said.

She will be performing at the Newmarket Jazz Festival again next year, but you can likely catch her in the meantime singing her heart out across the Greater Toronto Area. - The Auroran

Bio

With heartfelt dedication and enduring honesty on her debut full-length CD “Hot Air Balloon”, Stacey Kaniuk is an authentic virtuoso. Inspired by the inherent heartiness and rugged nature of mid-1960s soul, Motown, and R&B's heyday, “Hot Air Balloon” is reminiscent of a time when the music was sincere, bold and proud.

Stacey was recently awarded a FACTOR grant to complete a new EP under the care of producers Adam Messinger (MAGIC!,  Justin Beiber) and Thomas McKay (Joydrop, Michaela May) and has already received radio play for her currently released singles. Her latest single "Heartbeat" conveys all the effervescence of her energetic live show, thanks to the live-off-the-floor approach taken with her powerhouse horn section: William Sperandei on trumpet, William Carn on trombone, and Perry White on saxophone.

Stacey currently holds a weekly residency at the esteemed Reservoir Lounge in Toronto, where she is joined by Alison Young on sax, Eric Boucher on piano, Joel Banks on bass and Shamaka Ali on drums, entertaining crowds singing her upbeat original music as well as new interpretations of beloved soul classics.

With her new record to be released in summer of 2017, there promises to be lots on this horizon for this up-and-coming artist!
