Biography

Every time Stacey meets someone in the industry, especially other signed musicians, she is told, "you play great sax and your voice is awesome but you’re going to have to choose one or the other to market." Thing is - that is her marketing trademark! She’s a singer songwriter and saxophonist. That’s why pop/jazz works for her. Her vocals carry the pop sound and her jazzy sax lines take care of the rest. She’s smart, sexy, sings great and she jams on sax – that’s hot! So what’s the problem? No problem for her – she takes center stage gracefully and uses her sharpened skills to rivet her audience. Her live presence backed by her kick-ass band mesmerizes and excites. She is a unique act that truly packs in a lot of talent!

Her influences include Sting, Sheryl Crow, Bonnie Raitt, Spiro Gyra, David Sanborn, Kirk Whalum, Shawn Colvin, Don Henley, Grover Washington, Carole King and James Taylor just to name a few.

Stacey debuted as a songwriter at the age of ten when she wrote a song celebrating the renaming of her elementary school. As a professional artist, she has produced 3 CDs, containing mostly original music. On her second CD, While You Dream, Knights wrote and performed a tribute to Thelonius Monk with a song titled Morning Monk which won first prize in the March Jazz Competition sponsored by American Idol Underground. As a result of this win, she was named a “Best Emerging Artist of 2006” by American Idol Magazine. This June, Knights placed second in the AIU - Big Push II competition for her original song Doin’ Nothin’ With You also from the CD, While You Dream.

This year, Stacey was selected out of thousands of entries as one of 48 “independent artists” to be listed in the Independent Artist Registry a who’s who of industry professionals around the country. the last few years Knights has been the opening act for headliners Peter White, Richard Elliot, Euge Groove, Warren Hill, Chieli Minucci of Special FX, Down to the Bone, Nestor Torres, Steve Oliver, new age duos Willie and Lobo and Tingstad and Rumble, and for Spyro Gyra’s 25th anniversary performance at Reilly Rink in Manchester, Vermont. She has headlined and toured with her own group throughout Florida, Texas, Ohio and the Northeastern states. Stacey’s three albums have received airplay nationally and internationally in over 150 markets. She has been interviewed by college and mainstream radio stations and television networks across the country.

With her passion for the environment, Stacey partnered with the non-profit group Tampa Bay Watch (www.tampabaywatch.org), an organization dedicated to restoring the waters of Tampa Bay and launched her latest CD, Changing Midstream in May, 2007. Clips of her most recent interviews by FOX and NBC are available on her site at www.staceyknights.com

Recorded in Nashville using A-list studio musicians, Changing Midstream presents a sound that is Adult Contemporary. The shift from her Smooth Jazz roots to the Adult Contemporary market reflects Stacey’s broadened desire to reach more audiences. This new album features her sultry, expressive voice on all tracks while gutsy saxophone solos add spice to several of these tunes. From the R&B groove of Cruel Kind of Love to the Reggae influenced What I Learned about Love, Knights demonstrates flexibility in style without losing cohesion of concept. Her lyrics reach into the heart as she shares intimate real-life experiences with the listener.

In concert Stacey Knights’ performance blends AC and Pop/Jazz influences crafting a sound that is funky and fun. She keeps her scores of loyal fans aware of local appearances through an inspiring monthly e-newsletter, and they keep coming back to hear her – again and again and again.

Lyrics

Do I

Written By: Stacey Knights

Do I make you nervous? Do I waste your time?
Do I make you wonder when you’re walkin’ behind me?

Do ya kind of like me when you’re in my company?
Do ya have some affection, or is it just my fantasy?

Do I make you breathless? Do I make you weak?
Do you search for little clues - dream of me when you sleep?

Do ya kinda like me when you’re in my company?
Do ya have some affection or is it just my fantasy?

Do you wish you’d met me a couple of years before?
Do you dream of second chances behind the other door?

Do I sort of excite you when you’re in my company?
Do ya have some affection, Or is it just my fantasy?

Do I disappoint you that I show no sign?
Do I take up headroom when you’re killing time?

Do I want reality to get a good hold onto me?
Do ya have some affection or is it just my fantasy?

Do ya have some affection or is it just my fantasy?

Cruel Kind of Love

Written By: S. Knights/S Ofalt

It’s a cruel kind of love I have for you
When you’re in my arms I just want to burrow deep in your heart
And baby when I’m gone I can’t help but feel that’s all right with you
Walkin’ the razor’s edge between hope and despair

And when I say I love you and I don’t care
If you don’t say it back, I’m a Liar
I keep telling myself it’s not fair
This one-way love’s got me tired

It’s a cruel kind of love hanging on your every word
Hunting for a sign that shows me how much you really care
I’m Counting the nice things you’ve said like I’m saving for a string of pearls
Times I think I should stop this torturous affair

And when I say I love you and I don’t care
If you don’t say it back, I’m a Liar
I keep telling myself it’s not fair
This one-way love’s got me tired

It’s a cruel kind of love I have for you
It’s a cruel kind of love I have for you

I’m too old to believe in fairy tale ending
Too young to give up on new beginnings
Say what you to, but not if it’s hurtful
Or maybe just leave me alone, leave me alone

I keep thinking I’m so self-sufficient
Until you pop into my head
I don’t really need you
But I don’t want to lose you
I want to know, I need to know…

When I say I love you and I don’t care
If you don’t say it back, I’m a liar
This one-way love is hard to bear
What can I do with my poor hearts desire?

It’s a cruel kind of love I have for you
It’s a cruel kind of love I have for you
Etc…

Set List

My typical set list for live performance is about building energy. I use mainly originals and sprinkle in some cover tunes that match my sound. My sets can be any length but I tend to work in 50min increments. Convention work often requires adaptability and the band is good at that skill. Most performances are 2-4hrs in length and what we play depends on the gig.
The following is our sample songlist which when played live is mostly original with some songs from the covers list included.
